Overview

HYDE is a recessed ceiling lamp from the brand FARO, designed for those looking for clean and tidy lighting without the fixture drawing attention to itself. Its square shape and matte white finish allow it to blend into the ceiling discreetly, without interrupting the visual continuity of the space.

It is a lamp that works well in many environments: a hallway, a kitchen, a dining room, or a bedroom. Any place where directed light is needed without installing a pendant lamp or a larger surface light. Its IP44 protection rating also makes it suitable for areas with some humidity or splashing, such as the bathroom or areas near the kitchen.

FARO is a Spanish company with decades of experience in lighting for home and contract spaces. Their products combine modern design with careful finishes, designed to last and adapt to different types of interiors.

Installation and specifications

To install this recessed ceiling lamp, you need a suitable installation opening matching its dimensions and pre-laid wiring. The connection must be carried out by a qualified electrician, especially if the circuit has not been previously set up for recessed fixtures. Before starting the installation, the power must be cut at the electrical panel. The GU10 LED bulb is not included, so it is advisable to have it on hand before closing the installation.

To clean the lamp, simply use a dry or slightly damp cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or solvents on the matte white finish, as they may damage the surface. Make sure the lamp is switched off and cool before any cleaning or bulb replacement.

Design and use

The HYDE model by FARO is a square recessed luminaire with a steel body in matte white. The choice of steel as the main material gives it solidity without adding unnecessary weight: at just 0.15 kg, it is easy to handle during installation. The square shape sets it apart from the more common round recessed lights, adding a touch of modern design without being eye-catching.

Being recessed into the ceiling, nothing protrudes from the plane of the ceiling surface. This is a real advantage in spaces with low ceilings, where a pendant lamp or a bulky surface light would reduce the sense of spaciousness. Also in rooms where a clean visual line is desired, this type of lamp goes unnoticed during the day and fulfils its function at night without unnecessary prominence.

The kitchen is one of the spaces where this type of luminaire makes the most sense. Recessed lights allow specific work areas to be illuminated, such as the countertop or the bar, without interfering with the cabinets or with movement within the space. In a kitchen with a modern design, a row of square recessed lights like HYDE can replace traditional surface lights with a much more orderly result. The matte white finish integrates well with both white ceilings and finishes in light or neutral tones.

In the dining room, this lamp works well as supporting or directed lighting. If the dining room already has a main lamp above the table, the recessed ceiling lights can be used to illuminate other areas of the space or to create a more uniform atmosphere. In a dining room with a Nordic or minimalist style, the square profile of HYDE fits the aesthetic effortlessly.

In the bedroom, and especially in small bedrooms, this type of recessed lamp can be the solution when there is no space for bedside tables with a lamp, or when visible cables are undesirable. Two well-positioned units in the ceiling can provide enough light for reading or moving around the room. In bedrooms with a modern design and smooth ceilings, square recessed lights add visual order.

The IP44 protection rating expands the possibilities of use. It means the lamp is protected against solid objects larger than one millimetre and against water splashes from any direction. It can therefore be installed in bathrooms, in kitchen areas near the sink, or in other spaces where there is some humidity. It is not designed for outdoor use or for areas with direct water exposure, but within the limits of interior use with controlled humidity, it works without issue.

The operating voltage ranges from 100 V to 240 V, making it compatible with electrical installations in different countries or older buildings with network variations. The required bulb is a GU10 LED type, a very widespread format that is easily found in any hardware store or lighting shop. The maximum accepted power is 8 W.

As for combining it with other decorative elements, matte white is one of the most neutral finishes available. It does not compete with other materials or with strong colours on walls or furniture. In an interior with light wood, marble, or polished concrete, this lamp fits in effortlessly. Also in more modern spaces with straight lines and lacquered furniture, the square profile of HYDE reinforces the coherence of the overall look.

Questions and answers

Does the IP44 protection rating allow HYDE to be installed in the bathroom?

Yes. IP44 indicates that the lamp is protected against water splashes from any direction, so it can be installed in humid interior areas, such as the bathroom, as long as the safety zones established by current electrical regulations are respected.

What type of bulb does this lamp require and is it included?

It requires a GU10 LED bulb with a maximum power of 8 W. The bulb is not included and must be purchased separately. This format is very common and can easily be found in lighting shops or hardware stores.

What are the dimensions of the opening needed to recess HYDE into the ceiling?

The lamp measures 171 mm in length, 89 mm in depth, and 55 mm in height. For the installation opening, these measurements must be taken into account and it must be ensured that the ceiling has sufficient thickness and space to accommodate the body of the luminaire.
