Overview

The FARO AIRE 650 lamp is a suspension luminaire designed for interior spaces where light needs to do more than just illuminate. It is fixed to the ceiling and works well in the living room, dining room, bedroom, or any room where a characterful light source is desired.

What sets this lamp apart is its shade: made from recycled PETG and 3D printed, it has an oval shape with a texture reminiscent of bubbles trapped in the material. The surface captures and disperses light in a way that is difficult to achieve with conventional materials. The transparent finish allows the light source to be seen, but the texture breaks up the direct glare and turns it into something softer and more enveloping.

FARO is a Spanish brand with decades of experience in lighting. Its collections combine functionality with clear design criteria, and the AIRE line is an example of that direction: recycled materials, controlled manufacturing, and a result that stands the test of time.

Installation and specifications

Before installing the lamp, check that the ceiling light point has a suitable junction box to support the weight of the assembly. At almost eleven kilos, it is important to ensure that the anchor is secure. Installation must be carried out by a qualified electrician. The voltage is compatible with the standard electrical grid in Spain and most Spanish-speaking countries. The lamp does not include a bulb, so choose an E27 LED before switching it on.

To clean the oval shade, use a dry or slightly damp cloth. Avoid abrasive products or solvents that could damage the PETG. The steel body with white finish can be cleaned in the same way. Do not wet the electrical components or clean the lamp while the light is on or immediately after switching it off.

Design and use

The shade of the AIRE 650 has an oval shape that is not arbitrary. The closed curves and raised texture create a piece that, seen with the light off, already draws attention. When switched on, the surface acts as a natural filter: light passes through the recycled PETG and is distributed in an irregular yet controlled way, generating soft reflections on nearby walls and surfaces.

The material is one of the most interesting elements of this lamp. Recycled PETG has an appearance close to glass, with that same sense of depth and transparency, but with greater mechanical strength. 3D printing allows each piece to have a finish that cannot be replicated with traditional moulding. The print layers contribute to that texture which causes the light to diffuse in a special way.

This pendant lamp works particularly well above a dining table. The size of the oval shade fills the visual space without being excessive, and the light it projects is suitable for creating a warm atmosphere at mealtimes. In the kitchen, placed above an island or countertop, it provides a localised light source with a clearly modern look.

In the bedroom, a single unit above the bedside table or centred on the ceiling can greatly change the perception of the space. The light filtered through the oval shade is not harsh, making it comfortable for a restful atmosphere. In the bathroom, provided the installation complies with regulations regarding distance from wet zones, this pendant lamp adds a different touch compared to conventional wall lights.

One of the possibilities offered by the AIRE collection is combining several luminaires in the same space. Two or three lamps at different heights in the living room create a composition that goes beyond functional lighting. The oval shape of each piece and the bubble effect on the surface create a coherent ensemble without the units appearing identical to one another. The steel body in white finish pairs well with interiors in light tones, but also contrasts interestingly with dark walls or natural materials such as wood.

The suspension cable and white ceiling bracket give the assembly a clean visual appearance. There are no elements that distract from the prominence of the shade. For those looking for something different from a standard Scandinavian lamp or a glass globe, the AIRE 650 offers an alternative with its own identity.

Questions and answers

Is the oval shade fragile to the touch or can it deform over time?

The shade is made from recycled PETG, a material with good mechanical strength. It is not fragile like glass, and it maintains its shape with normal use. Avoid direct impacts and prolonged exposure to nearby heat sources.

Can the lamp be used with any E27 bulb or are there restrictions?

The maximum permitted power is 20 W. Choose an E27 LED bulb that does not exceed this value. Higher-wattage incandescent bulbs are not compatible and may damage the lamp.

Is it possible to install several AIRE 650 units on the same ceiling and connect them to a single switch?

Yes, the AIRE collection is designed for this type of arrangement. A parallel electrical installation allows several pendant lamps to be switched on and off simultaneously from a single point. Consult an electrician to correctly size the circuit.
