Overview

SAGA is an outdoor pendant lamp designed by Carrasquet for FARO. Its large-format shade, with a black exterior finish and white interior, concentrates light downward efficiently, without dispersing it in directions where it is not needed. It is a luminaire designed for outdoor spaces that require functional lighting and visual presence at the same time.

It adapts well to different situations: a terrace with a table, an entrance porch, a patio with a seating area, or a covered pergola. In all these cases, this type of pendant lamp provides direct light over the most-used area. FARO is a Spanish brand with decades of experience in lighting, recognized for combining design and durability in its outdoor and indoor products.

Installation and specifications

Before installing the lamp, check that the ceiling anchor point is solid and can support the weight of the assembly. As this is an outdoor luminaire, the wiring must be protected and suitable for outdoor use. Installation must be carried out by a qualified electrician, especially when working in areas exposed to humidity or rain. Always follow the manufacturer's instructions and local electrical regulations.

To clean the aluminum body, use a soft, slightly damp cloth. Avoid abrasive products or solvents that may damage the black finish. The PEMD opal diffuser can be cleaned in the same way, taking care not to scratch the surface. Periodically check the connections and the general condition of the lamp, especially if it is installed in a garden or in an area exposed to temperature changes.

Design and use

The SAGA lamp starts from a simple idea: a wide shade that directs light where it is needed. The body is made of aluminum, a material that holds up well in outdoor conditions without losing its appearance over time. The black finish gives it a clean profile that does not compete with the surroundings but integrates into them. It is the type of pendant lamp that works equally well in a modern garden or on a porch with more classic lines.

The white interior of the diffuser serves a specific purpose: it reflects light and improves its projection downward. This makes the lighting more usable in the area of use, without much of it being lost to the sides. The diffuser is made of PEMD with an opal finish, which softens the light without blocking it. The result is directed but not harsh light, suitable for a terrace where dinner is served, a patio with a reading area, or an access porch.

The dimensions of the shade, with a diameter of 519 mm, make it visible and effective in open spaces. It does not get visually lost on an outdoor ceiling or look too small above a garden table. The total height of 257 mm maintains a compact profile that is not bulky. With a weight of 1.67 kg, the assembly is manageable during installation and does not require an excessively reinforced anchor.

This pendant lamp works with an E27 LED bulb of up to 12 W, which is not included. This allows you to choose the color temperature that best suits the use: warmer light for a sitting terrace, or something more neutral for an access point or a porch with a more practical function. Compatibility with voltages from 100V to 240V makes it suitable for different installations without the need for adapters.

In terms of style, SAGA fits into various contexts. In a contemporary garden, the black body aligns with other elements featuring straight lines and dark materials. In a more traditional or rustic patio, the rounded shape of the shade is reminiscent of a design lantern, without feeling old-fashioned or out of place. It also works well in an outdoor gallery or a covered balcony where real lighting is desired, not just decorative.

If several lights of the same model are installed, the effect is uniform and orderly, something that is appreciated in long spaces such as a pergola or a continuous porch. The visual consistency offered by a set of identical lamps also facilitates the planning of wiring and ceiling anchor points.

Questions and answers

Does the PEMD opal diffuser hold up well to continued exposure to sun and rain outdoors?

PEMD is a material designed for outdoor use, with good resistance to sun and rain cycles. The opal finish is not a surface coating but part of the material itself, so it does not peel or degrade with normal exposure in a garden or on a terrace.

Is the 519 mm diameter shade suitable for medium-sized outdoor spaces, such as a porch or a small patio?

Yes. With that diameter, the lamp has sufficient presence to illuminate a use area without needing to be combined with other lights. In larger spaces, such as a pergola or a large garden, it can be used together with other units for uniform coverage.

Is it necessary to use a specific bulb, or is any E27 LED of up to 12 W compatible?

The lamp accepts any standard bulb with an E27 base and a maximum power of 12 W. It does not require a specific model. The bulb is not included, so you can choose the color temperature that best suits the use and the environment where it is installed.
