Overview

SAGA is an outdoor pendant lamp designed by Carrasquet for the brand FARO. It is intended for open-air spaces where functional lighting is needed without losing visual presence: a porch, a terrace, a covered patio, or a home entrance. Its large-format shade distributes light generously, and the white interior improves downward projection, making it useful in situations where good visibility of the space is desired without relying on multiple light points.

What sets this pendant luminaire apart is the combination of finishes: beige on the outside, white on the inside. The exterior integrates well with light-colored facades or natural elements, while the white interior works in favor of luminous performance. It is not a decorative lamp that sacrifices function — it does both at the same time.

FARO is a Spanish company with decades of experience in lighting. It works with designers to develop products that combine careful design with materials built to last. SAGA is one of their outdoor models, designed to be ceiling-mounted and to withstand the conditions typical of outdoor use.

Installation and specifications

For installation, a fixed electrical supply point on the ceiling is required. It is recommended that the installation be carried out by a qualified electrician, especially outdoors, where humidity conditions require a properly sealed connection. Before starting, the electrical supply must be switched off at the main panel. The lamp does not include a bulb, so it is advisable to have a compatible E27 LED bulb on hand before completing the assembly.

The aluminum body does not require special maintenance, but it should be cleaned periodically with a dry or slightly damp cloth to prevent the build-up of dust or dirt. Abrasive products or solvents should not be used. To access the bulb, it is recommended to disconnect the lamp from the power supply before handling it.

Design and use

SAGA has a shade with a 519 mm diameter. It is a wide format that allows good coverage of a walkway, an outdoor table, or a home entrance. The scale of the shade means it does not go unnoticed, but the beige finish prevents it from being overly eye-catching. It integrates without effort into light-colored facades, stone walls, or wooden structures — those materials that appear frequently in Mediterranean or rustic-style outdoor settings.

The body is made of aluminum, a common material in outdoor lamps due to its durability and low weight. At 1.67 kg, SAGA is not a heavy lamp, but it is advisable to ensure that the ceiling anchor point is solid before installing it. The diffuser is made of PEMD with an opal finish, which provides diffuse and uniform light, without bright spots or harsh shadows.

As an outdoor pendant lamp, it fits well in wide porches where there is sufficient height to hang without being uncomfortable to walk under. It also works well on covered terraces, pergola patios, or outdoor galleries. In those contexts, a single unit may be sufficient to illuminate a living or outdoor dining area. If the space is larger, several units can be combined to distribute the light in a balanced way.

The beige exterior places it in a classic or rustic register, though without looking old. It has no ornaments or overloaded details — it is a clean shape with a color that ages well. This makes it compatible with both more modern settings and country houses, gardens, or traditional entrances. In a garden, for example, installed under a pergola or in a covered area, it adds presence without clashing with the surrounding vegetation or natural materials.

The white interior of the shade is not a minor detail. In a pendant lamp, the interior color directly influences how light is distributed. White reflects better and directs the illumination downward, where it is needed. This makes it more practical in situations where good visibility of the table, the floor, or the walkway is desired, and not just ambient light.

SAGA is compatible with standard E27 LED bulbs up to 12 W. Compatibility with voltages between 100V and 240V allows it to be used in different countries without additional adapters. Since no bulb is included, the user can choose the color temperature that best suits the atmosphere they are looking for — warmer light for a cozy porch, or more neutral if the use is more functional.

Questions and answers

Does the PEMD diffuser with opal finish affect the amount of light that reaches the space?

The opal diffuser softens the light and distributes it uniformly, which reduces direct glare. Some of the light is diffused as it passes through the material, but the white interior of the shade compensates for this by reflecting the illumination downward more efficiently.

How much does the lamp weigh and what should I keep in mind for ceiling mounting?

The lamp weighs 1.67 kg. For ceiling mounting, it is important to ensure that the anchor point can support that weight with margin. In masonry ceilings, a suitable wall plug and screw are sufficient. It is recommended that the installation be carried out by a professional, especially outdoors.

Can the SAGA lamp be installed outdoors exposed to direct rain?

SAGA is categorized as an outdoor luminaire, but to confirm whether it is suitable for direct rain exposure, it is advisable to check the IP protection level in the manufacturer's official technical data sheet or contact our customer service before purchasing.
