Overview

The FARO SAU 156 is an outdoor LED spotlight designed to illuminate gardens, plants, façades, and decorative elements in open-air spaces. It is wall-mounted and directs light at a 10° angle, allowing the beam to be concentrated exactly where needed: on a plant, a tree, a sculpture, or any detail that deserves visual attention in the garden or patio.

The design is clean and discreet. The black aluminium and ABS body blends in without drawing attention, letting the illuminated element take centre stage. As an accent light, it fulfils its function well without adding visual noise to the surroundings.

FARO is a Spanish brand with years of experience in indoor and outdoor lighting. Its products are found in residential and commercial projects, with an approach that balances aesthetics and functionality.

Installation and specifications

For installation, an electrical supply point on the wall prepared for outdoor use is required. Before beginning assembly, the power must be turned off at the electrical panel. As this is a spotlight with IP65 protection, the cables and connections must be properly sealed to maintain that protection against water and dust. It is recommended that installation be carried out by a qualified electrician if you do not have basic electrical knowledge.

For maintenance, simply clean the surface of the body with a dry or slightly damp cloth. Do not use abrasive products or solvents on the black finish. The PC diffuser may accumulate some dust over time; it can be easily cleaned with a soft cloth. Periodically check that the wall anchors are secure, especially if the spotlight is exposed to wind.

Design and use

The SAU 156 is an outdoor spotlight with a compact body and elongated profile. Its matt black finish in aluminium and ABS gives it a solid appearance without adding visual weight. Mounted on the wall, it points towards the ground or towards any element placed in front of it, projecting a concentrated beam thanks to its 10° aperture.

This type of spotlight works particularly well in gardens where the aim is to highlight vegetation. Pointed at a large plant, a trimmed shrub, or a distinctive tree, the spotlight creates a sense of volume and depth that transforms the appearance of the space as night falls. It also works well on stone elements, textured walls, or outdoor sculptures, where grazing light reveals the details of the surface.

The 3000K colour temperature produces a warm light, close to that of a traditional bulb. This tone is the one that works best in residential gardens: it does not give a sense of coldness or an industrial space, but rather a carefully tended and welcoming atmosphere. The spotlight includes an integrated COB LED light source, which simplifies installation and ensures a uniform beam distribution.

The transparent PC diffuser does not interfere with the colour of the light or blur the beam, allowing the accent effect to be precise. On a terrace with potted plants or along a garden path, several spotlights of this type installed on the wall can create a coherent scenic lighting scheme without the need for large installations.

The IP65 protection makes it suitable for outdoor use without climate restrictions. It withstands rain, humidity, and dust without affecting its operation. The aluminium body also contributes to the dissipation of heat generated by the LED, resulting in a more stable service life for the unit.

Regarding installation, the spotlight is fixed directly to the wall. It does not take up floor space, which is practical in passageways or patios with little room. Being oriented from above downwards — or in the direction adjusted according to the mounting position — the beam falls naturally onto the element to be illuminated.

The weight of 1.67 kg is moderate for a spotlight of these dimensions, so it does not require special anchors on most surfaces. The black colour of the body blends well with both dark façades and stone or exposed brick walls, materials commonly found in gardens and outdoor areas of homes.

Questions and answers

Does the SAU 156 include the LED light source or does it need to be purchased separately?

The COB LED light source is already included in the spotlight. No additional components need to be purchased to get it up and running.

What level of protection does it offer against rain and dust?

The spotlight has IP65 protection, which means it is completely dust-tight and resistant to water jets from any direction. It is suitable for outdoor installation without additional protection.

Is the 10° aperture angle fixed or can it be widened?

The 10° angle is fixed. It is a very concentrated beam, specifically designed for accent lighting on specific elements such as plants, sculptures, or architectural details.
