Overview

The FARO SAU 155 is an LED spotlight designed for outdoor use. It mounts on a wall and directs light where it is needed: a plant, a tree, a façade, a decorative garden element. It is not a general ambient luminaire, but a precise projector that works on a specific point.

With a beam angle of 10x60°, it concentrates the beam without dispersing it too much. This allows intentional lighting, highlighting volumes and textures without flooding the space with diffuse light. The IP65 rating ensures that water and dust do not affect the operation of the spotlight, making it suitable for outdoor installations throughout the year.

FARO is a Spanish brand with decades of experience in outdoor and indoor lighting. Their products combine technical criteria with a careful finish, designed to integrate well into the environment without drawing more attention than necessary.

Installation and specifications

For installation, it is recommended to switch off the power before making any connections. The spotlight is fixed directly to the wall using the anchors corresponding to the included bracket. Before mounting, it is advisable to mark the fixing points precisely so that the projector is correctly oriented from the very start. As this is outdoor equipment, it is important that the electrical connection is protected against moisture and that installation materials suitable for outdoor use are used.

The PC diffuser withstands temperature variations and continuous exposure well. To clean the luminaire, a soft, slightly damp cloth is sufficient. Avoid abrasive products or solvents that may affect the black finish of the body. Do not handle the spotlight while it is on or connected to the mains.

Design and use

The SAU 155 has a compact body made of aluminium and ABS, with a matt black finish. The combination of these two materials is practical: the aluminium provides strength and helps dissipate the heat generated by the LED, while the ABS keeps the weight down. The result is a projector that looks neither fragile nor heavy, and that integrates well into dark façades, stone walls or concrete surfaces without looking out of place.

The diffuser is made of transparent polycarbonate, which allows light to emerge cleanly, without colour casts or loss of intensity. The integrated COB LED light source operates at 3000K, a warm colour temperature that gives the light a tone close to that of traditional halogen. It is a type of light that enhances natural textures: wood, stone, earth, vegetation. In a garden, that makes the difference between a space that looks good at night and one that feels artificial.

With 13W of power, the spotlight offers a good balance between consumption and output. It is not a high-powered long-range projector, but a luminaire designed for decorative lighting at short to medium distances. It works well highlighting a medium-sized plant, a trimmed shrub, a garden sculpture or the lower section of a façade. It can also be used to mark the perimeter of a patio or indicate an access point from the ground upwards.

The 10x60° angle creates an asymmetric beam: narrow on one axis and wider on the other. This allows vertical elements, such as tree trunks or columns, to be lit in a more natural way than with a circular beam. The projector can be oriented during installation to adjust the direction of the beam according to what is to be highlighted.

The IP65 protection means that the spotlight is sealed against dust and resistant to direct water jets. This is a sufficient rating for most residential outdoor uses: rain, automatic irrigation, ambient humidity. It does not require any additional cover or installation under an overhang.

The black colour of the body means the projector goes unnoticed during the day. In gardens with dense vegetation or on dark façades, it virtually disappears. At night, only the light it projects is perceived, not the unit itself. This discretion is one of the key strengths of the SAU 155 in installations where the spotlight should not visually compete with the elements it illuminates.

It can be combined with other projectors from the same series to illuminate larger areas with aesthetic consistency. It also works well alongside ground luminaires or garden bollards that provide orientation lighting while the SAU 155 takes care of the decorative elements. On a terrace, for example, it can highlight the vegetation on one side while other light sources manage the general lighting of the space.

Questions and answers

Can the SAU 155 be installed in an area reached by water from an automatic irrigation system?

Yes. The IP65 rating of the projector indicates that it is protected against direct water jets, so regular exposure to automatic irrigation does not pose a problem for its operation.

Is the COB LED light source included or does it need to be purchased separately?

The light source is included. The projector arrives ready to connect, with no need to purchase any additional lighting components.

Is the 10x60° beam angle fixed or can it be modified?

The angle is fixed, inherent to the optics of the integrated COB LED. What can be adjusted is the orientation of the spotlight during installation, to direct the beam towards the point to be illuminated.
