Overview

The MAYA wall light by FARO is an oval-shaped wall lamp that adapts well to different spaces in the home. It works as main lighting or as ambient light, depending on how it is positioned and at what intensity it is set. Its compact size makes it useful in rooms where there is not much free wall space, but where a well-placed light point is needed.

What sets this lamp apart is the combination of a matte black aluminium body with an opal glass diffuser. That mix of materials results in a piece that does not draw too much attention, yet fits well in modern interiors without feeling forced. The light it emits is warm, at 2700K, which creates a calm atmosphere without visual harshness.

FARO is a Spanish company with extensive experience in the design and manufacture of luminaires. Its products are developed at the Faro Lab studio with attention to detail and a balance between form and function.

Installation and specifications

Preparation and installation. Before installing the wall light, check that the area of the wall where it will be placed is free of hidden wiring or pipes. The lamp can be fixed directly to the wall or connected via cable, depending on the installation available to you. If you do not have experience with electrical installations, it is advisable to seek the help of an electrician. Make sure to disconnect the power before starting any work.

Use and maintenance. Clean the surface of the body with a dry or slightly damp cloth. Avoid abrasive products or solvents that could damage the matte black finish. The glass diffuser can be cleaned with a soft cloth to maintain its transparency. Do not handle the wall light while the lamp is on or immediately after it has been switched off, as it may accumulate heat.

Design and use

The MAYA wall light has an oval shape that feels balanced without being eye-catching. The body is made of aluminium and steel, materials that give it solidity without adding unnecessary weight. The matte black finish does not accumulate reflections or show fingerprints easily, making it quite practical in everyday use.

The opal glass diffuser covers the LED light source and distributes the brightness evenly. There are no bright spots or harsh shadows: the light comes out soft and wraps the space with quality. That temperature of 2700K is especially noticeable in the bedroom or living room, where a too-cold light would feel uncomfortable at night.

The ability to adjust the intensity is a detail that considerably changes how the lamp is used. In a dining room, for example, it can go from functional lighting during dinner to a lower light for a relaxed after-dinner setting. In a living room, that same flexibility allows the atmosphere to be adapted to the moment of the day without needing to change the lamp.

One of the practical advantages of this wall light is that it offers two installation options. If your wall already has a prepared electrical outlet, you can fix it directly. If you prefer to connect it via cable, that is also possible. This gives room to adapt the installation to what you already have at home without any building work.

In addition, the lamp can be used as a table lamp, which broadens its possibilities. Placed on a chest of drawers in the bedroom or on a shelf in the living room, it serves the same function as a wall light, but without needing to make any holes. It is a convenient option if you are renting or if you want to try out how it looks before fixing it permanently.

As for the spaces where it fits best, the MAYA lamp works well in rooms intended for quiet use. In a bedroom, the warm light is well suited to night-time reading or simply to resting. In the living room, it can act as a complementary light point alongside other sources. In hallways, where lighting is often scarce, this wall light provides a clean solution without taking up space. In the dining room it can add warmth without competing with a main lamp.

It also fits in the bathroom if you are looking for a decorative light point with a somewhat more refined design than standard wall lights. In smaller bathrooms, its compact size does not visually overwhelm the space. In larger bathrooms, it can be combined with other matte black elements to give coherence to the overall look.

The terracotta colour mentioned in the original description of the series pairs well with light wood surfaces, earth-toned walls or grey finishes. The matte black of the model described in these specifications adapts to modern interiors, both in combination with neutral colours and with more industrial finishes. The design by Faro Lab has a clean line that does not date easily, making it a safe choice for a space you want to continue working well visually in the years to come.
