Overview

LUANG is a locally manufactured wall light, designed by Faro Lab under the FARO brand. It is a lamp designed for interiors where light not only needs to illuminate but also become part of the atmosphere. It adapts well to a bedroom, living room, dining room, or hallway where warmth is desired without overwhelming the space.

What sets this wall light apart is its papyrus shade. It has no internal structure: the papyrus holds its own shape, and when the lamp is on, the entire surface lights up uniformly. The result is a soft, diffuse light that creates no harsh shadows or areas of excessive contrast.

The Luang collection was born from observing the craft work of Southeast Asia, where objects are built from flat materials that end up taking on volumetric forms with great visual complexity. That idea is present in every piece. FARO is a brand with a strong track record in lighting design, and Faro Lab is its local development line, where the manufacturing process remains close to its place of origin.

Installation and specifications

To install this wall light, it is recommended to have an existing electrical point on the wall, as the fixture mounts directly to the surface. Before beginning installation, disconnect the power supply at the breaker panel. The steel body is anchored to the wall with the appropriate hardware; it is advisable to check the wall type to use the correct anchor. If you do not have experience with electrical installations, the safest option is to seek the help of an electrician.

The papyrus shade does not require frequent cleaning. To remove dust, use a dry cloth or a soft duster. Avoid contact with water or liquid cleaning products, as papyrus is a material sensitive to moisture. Do not install this wall light in bathrooms with direct steam or in splash zones. Use only E27 LED bulbs within the indicated 15 W limit.

Design and use

The LUANG wall light starts from a simple idea: that an everyday object can carry the same visual weight as a handcrafted piece. The beige papyrus shade does not imitate any material; it is directly the result of a manufacturing process that works with natural fibers following a Southeast Asian tradition. When shaped, the papyrus produces an irregular, organic texture that changes depending on the angle from which it is viewed.

The body of the wall light is made of steel with a black finish. That combination of materials — metal in the support, papyrus in the shade — creates a contrast that works very well in modern interiors. The structure is minimalist, with no additional decorative elements, leaving all the visual focus on the shade. The black of the body anchors the piece visually without competing with the lightness of the papyrus.

As a wall light, this model takes up little space and does not interfere with circulation. In a narrow hallway it can be the solution for adding light without hanging anything from the ceiling. In a bedroom it works well as a reading or ambient lamp, mounted at the right height next to the bed. In a living room it can complement a wall composition, combined with other design elements or alone on a neutral surface.

In the dining room, a wall light like this can complement the central lighting and create a more intimate area near the table or sideboard. The light it produces is warm and diffuse, with no harsh spots, which enhances that kind of atmosphere. In well-ventilated bathrooms, away from areas of direct moisture, it can also work as a decorative light point near the mirror or on a side wall.

Beige papyrus pairs well with light wood, natural textiles, and earth-toned surfaces. It also contrasts interestingly with dark walls, where the texture of the material becomes more visible. In Nordic-style interiors or in spaces with materials such as rattan or wicker, this wall light integrates easily without imposing a rigid style.

The lamp uses an E27 LED bulb, which is not included. The voltage range supports both 100V and 240V, allowing it to be used without adaptation in different types of electrical installations. The weight of 1.67 kg makes it a lightweight piece, easy to handle during installation.

Questions and answers

Does the papyrus shade have any internal structure that gives it its shape?

No. The LUANG shade has no internal structure. The papyrus holds itself up and is the only material it is made of. This means the entire surface lights up uniformly when the lamp is on.

Can this wall light be installed in a bathroom?

It can be placed in a bathroom as long as it is a well-ventilated space and the wall light is kept away from areas with steam or direct splashing. Papyrus is sensitive to moisture, so it is not suitable for installation near the shower or bathtub.

Does the black steel body come painted or does it have another type of finish?

The black finish on the steel body comes from the factory. The exact type of surface treatment is not specified, but the finish is part of the original design of the piece and requires no special maintenance beyond cleaning with a dry cloth.
