Overview

KIVI is an adjustable recessed spotlight from the FARO brand, designed for those who want precise, clean lighting without complicating the installation. The spotlight can be rotated to direct the light exactly where needed, which is useful in a kitchen, dining room, or hallway alike.

It features IP44 protection, allowing it to be installed in spaces where there is moisture: a bathroom, shower area, or any interior area exposed to steam. The 7W COB LED bulb at 2700K produces a warm light that is easy on the eyes. The dimmable driver allows you to adjust the intensity depending on the time of day or the atmosphere you want to create.

The removable honeycomb filter is one of the details that makes a difference: it reduces glare without blocking light, and can be removed for cleaning. The low recessing depth makes it possible to install in ceilings with little depth, where other models do not fit.

FARO is a Spanish company with decades of experience in home lighting. Their products combine functionality and modern design with quality materials.

Installation and specifications

For installation, it is necessary to prepare an opening in the ceiling with the indicated diameter. Since the lamp has a reduced recessing depth, it can be placed in ceilings with minimal air space. It is recommended to verify that the wiring is disconnected before starting the assembly and that the installation is carried out by a qualified electrician. The dimmable driver must be connected to a compatible dimmer switch to take advantage of the dimming function.

For maintenance, simply wipe the aluminium housing with a dry or slightly damp cloth. The honeycomb filter is easily removed for separate cleaning. Avoid using abrasive products or solvents on the black body. Do not handle the lamp while the installation is live.

Design and use

The KIVI body is made of aluminium with a matte black finish, a material that dissipates the heat generated by the LED well and maintains its appearance over time. The transparent polycarbonate diffuser lets light through without distorting it, and the integrated honeycomb filter acts as a screen that organises the beam and reduces annoying reflections. The entire unit has a diameter of 62 mm and just 30 mm in height, making it practically invisible once installed in the ceiling.

The modern design of this recessed spotlight fits well with contemporary interiors: white ceilings, dark cladding, kitchens with matte finishes, or minimalist-style bedrooms. The black body does not draw attention — it simply disappears into the ceiling and lets the light do the work. In a dining room, for example, a rail of several KIVI units aimed at the table can create focused lighting without installing a pendant lamp.

The orientation of the spotlight allows light to be directed in different directions. This is useful in a kitchen above the worktop, in a display case, in a hallway, or in any area where a specific point needs to be highlighted. It is not a general lighting lamp, but a directed light tool that complements other sources in the space.

In bedrooms, a pair of KIVI units above the headboard can replace bedside lights and free up surface space. The 2700K tone creates a warm atmosphere, similar to that of a traditional incandescent bulb, which is pleasant during evening hours. With the dimmable driver, the intensity can be lowered for reading or simply to set the mood in the room.

The IP44 protection expands the range of use. This level of protection is sufficient to install the lamp in bathrooms, shower areas without direct contact with water, or home spa areas with steam. It also works in kitchens with ambient humidity, in laundry rooms, or in any interior space where moisture is a factor to consider.

Although it is not designed for outdoor use, the IP44 rating covers moisture situations typical of interiors. For outdoor installations, higher protection would be required, so this model is not suitable for that use. Inside the home, however, it covers virtually any common situation.

In terms of lighting, 7W with COB LED technology delivers efficient luminous output for the size of the spotlight. COB lights produce a compact, uniform beam, ideal for accent or spot lighting. In spaces with standard ceiling heights, recessed downlights like this one integrate the light into the architecture and give a sense of order and visual cleanliness that other options cannot achieve. This type of downlight is especially valued in renovations where a modern, streamlined result is sought.

Questions and answers

Is the KIVI dimmable driver compatible with any dimmer switch?

The included driver is compatible with phase-cut dimmers (leading edge or trailing edge), which are the most common in domestic installations. Before installing, it is advisable to verify that the dimmer you have at home is compatible with LED loads to avoid flickering or malfunction.

What is the minimum recessing depth required to install the KIVI?

The lamp has a height of just 30 mm, meaning it requires very little space inside the ceiling to be installed correctly. This is an advantage in plasterboard or panel ceilings with a reduced cavity where other deeper models do not fit.

Does the honeycomb filter affect the amount of light the lamp emits?

The filter slightly reduces the beam angle and controls glare, but does not significantly reduce the amount of light perceived in the illuminated area. For those who prefer a wider beam, the filter can be easily removed without tools.
