Overview

The SAMBA lamp by FARO is a pendant luminaire designed for interior spaces where ambiance matters as much as the lighting itself. Its papyrus shade in a beige tone, combined with the matte black steel structure, creates a clean contrast that fits well in living rooms, bedrooms, and dining rooms. It is also an option that many professionals choose for hospitality projects, where visual detail makes a difference.

This pendant version comes with a plug and five meters of cable, allowing installation without any construction work. The hook is included. It hangs from the ceiling and is ready to plug in. There is no need to call an electrician to install it.

FARO is a Spanish company with decades of experience in lighting. It designs and manufactures lamps for residential and professional use, with special attention to the balance between form and function.

Installation and specifications

No special tools are needed to install this pendant lamp. It comes with a standard plug and a five-meter cable, so simply place the hook in the ceiling and plug it in. Before hanging it, check that the anchor point in the ceiling can support the weight of the assembly. Make sure the cable is not taut or in contact with surfaces that could damage it.

The papyrus shade is delicate. To clean it, use a dry cloth or a soft brush. Avoid water and cleaning products containing solvents. The matte black steel body can be cleaned with a slightly damp cloth. Do not touch the bulb when it is on. Always use an E27 LED bulb with a maximum of 15W.

Design and use

The SAMBA collection was born as a proposal from Faro Lab, FARO's own design line. The goal was to create a pendant lamp with a clear personality but without stridency, capable of working in very different environments without losing coherence. The result is a luminaire that combines a metal structure and a textile shade in a direct way, free of unnecessary ornamentation.

The shade is made of papyrus, a material that filters light gently. When the lamp is on, the surface of the shade takes on a particular warmth. The light does not arrive abruptly; it diffuses before reaching the space. This makes the room feel calmer, without harsh focal points or sharp shadows. For a bedroom or a living room where visual rest is sought, that effect is difficult to achieve with shades made from other materials.

The body is made of lacquered steel in matte black. It is a finish that does not reflect light and ages well. It does not accumulate fingerprints like glossy finishes and maintains a tidy appearance with little maintenance. The contrast between the black of the body and the beige of the shade is one of the most recognizable elements of this pendant lamp.

The 500 mm diameter places it at a size that works well above a dining table or in the center of a medium-sized room. It is not a small lamp, but it does not take up more visual space than necessary. In a living room with a standard ceiling, the cable height can be adjusted so it sits exactly where needed.

The version with a plug and five meters of cable is especially useful in spaces where there is no electrical installation in the ceiling or where intervention is to be avoided. Place the hook, run the cable, and plug it in. For a rental room, a home office, or a space that may change in the future, this option offers more flexibility than a fixed installation.

In hospitality projects, this pendant lamp frequently appears in reception areas, hotel rooms, or rest spaces. The oval design of the shade and the color combination work well in environments seeking a warm, contemporary tone without falling into the generic. It also fits in Nordic or clean-aesthetic spaces, where each piece must justify its presence.

At home, it can go above the dining table, in a bedroom as the main light, or in a living room as a focal point. If the kitchen has an island or bar area, a lamp of this type can also work well there. It is not recommended for the bathroom, as it has no protection against moisture.

The oval white papyrus shade contrasts with any dark wall and integrates effortlessly into light-colored walls. It looks good alongside wooden furniture, both light and dark, and does not compete with other decorative elements. It is a lamp that is noticed, but does not distract.

Questions and answers

Can the five-meter cable be shortened if the ceiling height is lower?

Yes. The cable is adjustable in length and can be gathered to adapt to lower ceilings. The excess can be collected at the hanging point with the included hook or with a standard cable collector.

What type of bulb is compatible with this pendant lamp?

Use an LED bulb with an E27 base and a maximum power of 15W. The bulb is not included. It is not recommended to exceed that power level to avoid damaging the papyrus shade with heat.

Is the oval papyrus shade durable, or does it deteriorate with use?

Papyrus is a material that holds up well under normal indoor conditions, away from direct moisture. It is advisable to avoid knocks and not to clean it with water. With basic maintenance, it retains its appearance for a long time.
