Overview

The SAMBA pendant lamp by Faro is a ceiling luminaire that finds its place in living rooms, dining rooms, bedrooms and spaces with character. Its papyrus shade in yellow with a white interior finish creates warm, enveloping light when switched on, while at rest it adds a clean, well-defined touch of colour. The matte black steel body gives it visual stability and a profile that does not distract, but rather complements.

What sets this lamp apart is the cable with tensioner: it allows the light point to be shifted away from the centre of the ceiling without the overall look losing tension or appearance. It is a practical solution for those who need to illuminate a table, a corner or a specific area without depending on where the power outlet is located.

FARO is a Spanish brand with decades of experience in lighting. Its Faro Lab line offers pieces with their own identity, designed for both domestic use and hospitality and commercial space projects.

Installation and specifications

Preparation and installation. This pendant lamp is fixed to the ceiling using the included cable tensioner system. Before installing it, check that the anchor point on the ceiling can support the weight of the assembly. Wiring must be carried out by a qualified electrician or a person with basic electrical installation knowledge. Make sure to cut the power before starting any work. The tensioner cable allows the horizontal position of the luminaire to be adjusted within the available radius, giving room to centre it over a table or a specific area without any building work.

Use and care. Clean the steel body with a dry or slightly damp cloth. The papyrus shade must not be wetted or rubbed with abrasive products. To remove dust from the shade, use a soft brush or a microfibre cloth without applying pressure. Do not exceed the indicated 15 W power rating. Always use an LED bulb with an E27 base compatible with the system voltage.

Design and use

The SAMBA collection starts from a simple idea: that a pendant lamp can have presence without imposing itself. The oval papyrus shade in yellow occupies the space gently, and its rounded shape distributes light downwards and sideways without creating harsh zones or annoying glare. The white interior of the diffuser helps the light to come out evenly, with that warm tone that papyrus always produces.

The matte black steel body connects the oval shade to the ceiling cleanly. There are no ornaments, no superfluous elements. The combination of black and yellow is direct and works well both in more neutral interiors and in environments with more personality. In a living room with white or grey walls, the lamp becomes the detail that adds character. In a dining room with wood or earth tones, it integrates effortlessly.

The tensioner cable is one of the most useful aspects of this lamp. In many homes, the ceiling rose is not exactly where the light is needed. With the tensioner, it is possible to shift the luminaire laterally and fix it where illumination is actually wanted, without resorting to additional installations. This makes it especially convenient in renovations or in spaces where the electrical layout is not ideal.

In the bedroom, a pendant lamp like this advantageously replaces bedside table lamps when space on the nightstands is limited. Hung at the right height, it provides sufficient light for reading or setting the mood without taking up surface space. In the kitchen, placed above the island or work area, it adds functional light with a design touch. In the bathroom, provided the installation allows it and safety zones are respected, it can be an interesting decorative option for illuminating the space with warmth.

The SAMBA collection is also designed for hospitality projects: restaurants, cafés, hotel receptions or workspaces with a refined aesthetic. In those environments, the pendant lamp holds up well under continuous use thanks to its steel construction and compatibility with low-consumption LEDs. The weight of 1.67 kg makes it manageable in multiple installations, and the matte black finish does not show fingerprints easily.

From a design perspective, SAMBA fits with modern lines, Nordic-aesthetic interiors or more eclectic proposals where natural materials and industrial finishes coexist. The oval papyrus shade brings an organic element that softens spaces with many hard surfaces. Alongside dark wood or metal furniture, the overall look gains visual depth.

The total height of 1800 mm with the cable extended allows the pendant to be adjusted to different ceiling heights. In low-ceilinged rooms, the cable can be shortened so the lamp sits more compactly. In double-height spaces or in passageways such as a long corridor, it can be showcased with the cable more extended, creating that sense of depth that suspended lights naturally produce.

Questions and answers

Does the tensioner cable allow the lamp to be shifted laterally relative to the ceiling rose?

Yes. The cable tensioner system is designed precisely for that: it allows the luminaire to be fixed at a point offset from the central ceiling anchor, without needing to move the electrical installation.

Is the oval papyrus shade fragile or resistant to daily use?

Papyrus is a lightweight and somewhat delicate material to the touch, but sufficiently stable for normal domestic use. It is advisable to avoid direct impacts and to clean it only with a dry cloth or a soft brush, without damp or abrasive products.

Is the E27 LED bulb included with the lamp?

No. The lamp does not include a bulb. It is necessary to purchase separately an LED bulb with an E27 base of up to 15 W, compatible with voltages between 100V and 240V.
