Overview

The MAMBO lamp by FARO is a pendant luminaire designed for interiors where atmosphere matters as much as light. The rattan shade with a natural finish adds texture and warmth without overwhelming the space. The steel body in black gives solidity to the whole and visually anchors it in the environment.

This ceiling lamp works well in a living room where a focal point is desired without resorting to eye-catching solutions. It also fits in a bedroom that needs a bit more character, or in a dining room where lighting defines the atmosphere around the table. The design of MAMBO also makes it a valid option for hospitality projects: restaurants, hotels or rental spaces where aesthetic coherence is sought without sacrificing functionality.

FARO is a Spanish brand with decades of experience in lighting. Its Faro Lab line brings together carefully designed products, made for those looking for something more than a standard lamp.

Installation and specifications

This pendant lamp is installed directly on the ceiling with the included hook. The version with a plug and five metres of cable allows it to be connected to a power outlet without the need for recessed electrical installation. It is important to verify that the anchor point on the ceiling can support the weight of the unit. It is recommended to check the height of the space before installation: the five-metre cable offers flexibility to adjust the final height of the lamp.

The rattan shade does not require frequent cleaning. For accumulated dust, a dry cloth or a soft-bristle brush is sufficient. Do not use wet products directly on the shade. The black steel body can be cleaned with a slightly damp cloth. Always use an E27 LED bulb compatible with the maximum wattage indicated. Switch off the lamp before any handling.

Design and use

The MAMBO collection emerges from FARO's creative laboratory with a clear idea: to combine natural materials and metallic finishes in a pendant lamp that needs no justification in any space. The oval rattan shade, with a diameter of 320 mm, has a scale that allows it to be used alone above a table or in a group to create a broader composition across the ceiling.

Rattan is a material with a presence of its own. Its texture filters light softly, casting small shadows on the walls that add depth to the atmosphere. It is not an opaque oval shade: it lets part of the light through, which softens the effect of the bulb and prevents direct glare. This characteristic makes the lamp work well both in modern spaces and in interiors with more rustic or Nordic references.

The black steel body acts as a counterpoint to the natural rattan. The combination creates a balance between the organic and the industrial that adapts to many decorating styles. In a kitchen with clean lines, for example, the black of the body pairs well with appliances or worktops of the same colour. In a dining room with visible wood, the oval rattan shade picks up that natural language and brings it up to ceiling height.

In the bedroom, a lamp of these characteristics can be placed at mid-height above a bedside table, adjusting the cable to the required length. The light it generates is warm and diffuse, suitable for a space where intense illumination is not desired. In the living room, a single pendant lamp above a sofa or reading corner can completely change the perception of the atmosphere.

The bathroom is another space where this type of lamp can work, provided that the installation conditions allow it. The sober design and contained scale of the oval shade prevent it from feeling excessive in a more intimate environment. It can also work in a hallway with good ceiling height as a decorative light point that marks the path through the space.

The plug version is especially practical for those who do not want to carry out any building work. It does not require an electrician or any intervention in the electrical installation: it plugs in directly. The five-metre cable provides enough room to resolve almost any situation, and the included hook makes ceiling mounting straightforward from the outset. An E27 LED bulb needs to be added, which is not included, but is easy to find in any lighting shop or hardware store.

In hospitality projects, MAMBO fits well in common areas, hotel rooms or dining areas where a carefully considered atmosphere is sought without resorting to conventional lighting. The combination of materials and the oval design make it recognisable without being eccentric.

Questions and answers

Can the five-metre cable be shortened if I need to hang the lamp closer to the ceiling?

Yes, the cable length can be adjusted by coiling it around the hook or cutting it to suit the needs of the space. If it is cut, it is recommended that an electrician carry out the work to ensure a safe connection.

Is the oval rattan shade suitable for use in a bathroom?

Rattan is a natural material that is sensitive to prolonged humidity. In a bathroom with good ventilation and no direct exposure to steam, it can be used without issue. It is not recommended in very small bathrooms or those without air extraction.

Is this ceiling lamp compatible with LED bulbs from any brand?

Yes, the E27 socket is standard and accepts LED bulbs from any manufacturer, as long as they do not exceed the 15 W maximum wattage indicated by the manufacturer.
