Overview

The FARO SCUBA LOUVER 1200 is a 1200 mm pendant lamp designed primarily for outdoor use, although it also fits seamlessly in indoor spaces with a more industrial or functional character. It can be installed on a porch, a terrace, a covered patio or a gallery, as well as indoors in workshops, large kitchens or dining rooms with high ceilings.

What sets this luminaire apart is the combination of genuine durability and a clean visual profile. The black aluminium finish gives it a defined presence without feeling overwhelming. The anti-glare louvre directs the light beam precisely and reduces eye strain, something particularly noticeable when the lamp is on for hours at a time. The 2700K colour temperature produces warm light, close to traditional incandescent light.

FARO is a Spanish company with decades of experience in lighting. Its catalogue covers both outdoor and indoor applications, with particular attention to product durability under demanding conditions.

Installation and specifications

Installing this pendant lamp requires a ceiling anchor point with sufficient capacity to support almost 1.7 kg. Before hanging the luminaire, make sure the wiring is switched off and that the ceiling mount is secure. If the ceiling is made of plaster or lightweight materials, use appropriate expansion anchors. The electrical connection must be carried out by a qualified electrician, especially in outdoor installations where regulations may require additional safety measures.

For maintenance, clean the aluminium body with a dry or slightly damp cloth. Avoid abrasive products or solvents that could damage the black finish. The PC diffuser can be cleaned in the same way. Since the lamp has IP65 protection, it can be exposed to rain without risk, but it is advisable to periodically check the fixing points if installed outdoors.

Design and use

The SCUBA LOUVER 1200 has an elongated format that visually spans the space rather than concentrating on a single point. With a length of 1200 mm and a diameter of just 70 mm, the lamp draws a horizontal line that visually organises the illuminated area. In outdoor settings such as a terrace or porch, that line helps to define the space without the need for additional decorative elements.

The body is made of aluminium with a matte black finish that holds up well under both continuous use and outdoor conditions. It is not a material that deteriorates easily with humidity or temperature changes, making it suitable for permanent garden or patio installations. The IK10 rating indicates that it withstands physical impacts of considerable force, which is relevant in high-traffic areas or installations at low height.

The IP65 rating guarantees total protection against dust and resistance to direct water jets. This means the lamp can be installed in exposed outdoor locations without needing to be shielded from rain. For a pergola, a covered entrance or an open porch, that protection makes the difference between a luminaire that lasts for years and one that starts to fail after the first rainy season.

The light source is an integrated 36W SMD LED with a colour temperature of 2700K. That warm tone transforms the atmosphere of any space: in a courtyard, it creates a more welcoming ambiance as night falls; on a porch, it provides visual continuity with the interior of the home. Bright sunlight during the day and warm lighting at dusk create a natural transition that feels pleasant.

The anti-glare louvre is one of the most practical features of this model. It limits the light emission angle so that the beam is projected in a controlled manner and does not shine directly into the eyes of those nearby. In spaces where people spend time seated, such as a terrace or a garden with a relaxation area, that glare control translates into greater comfort.

The industrial style of the SCUBA LOUVER pairs well with materials such as concrete, dark wood, iron or stone. It also works in interiors with a more restrained design: kitchens with an island, dining rooms with clean lines or workspaces where clear, characterful lighting is sought. If the surroundings already feature metallic elements in black, the lamp integrates naturally.

As for whether the luminaire has a more rustic or more contemporary look, it depends on the context. In a stone courtyard it can read as a lamp with an old, robust profile. In a space with modern lines, the black finish and cylindrical shape place it firmly among contemporary options. That versatility makes it useful in very different decorating projects.

Questions and answers

Is IP65 protection sufficient to install the lamp in a fully exposed outdoor area subject to rain?

Yes. IP65 guarantees total protection against dust and resistance to water jets from any direction. The lamp can be installed on an open porch, a patio or a terrace without the need for additional cover.

Is the SMD LED integrated or can it be replaced separately?

The SMD LED light source is included and integrated into the luminaire. It is not designed to be replaced independently.

What does the IK10 rating mean in practical everyday use?

IK10 is the maximum level of resistance to mechanical impacts. It indicates that the housing can withstand impacts of up to 20 joules, making it suitable for high-traffic areas or installations where there is a risk of accidental contact with the luminaire.
