Overview

CLAP is an outdoor pendant lamp designed for semi-covered spaces such as galleries, porches, or passageways with a roof. Its structure is almost invisible: a linear aluminum profile in black that barely takes up any visual space, letting the light be the only thing that stands out. The result is clean, directional accent lighting with a 38° angle that concentrates the beam where it is needed.

This luminaire belongs to the CLAP system by FARO, a Spanish brand with decades of experience in technical and decorative lighting. The system integrates different solutions — stakes, bollards, wall lights, projectors, and pendants — with a unified aesthetic, making it possible to create coherent environments in the garden, terrace, or patio without mixing styles.

The CLAP linear pendant is especially useful when a scenographic effect is desired: highlighting an area, marking a path, or creating atmosphere in an outdoor space with character. Its color temperature of 3000K offers warm light that does not distort materials or vegetation.

Installation and specifications

The lamp is ceiling-mounted by suspension. Before installation, verify that the ceiling anchor point is solid and prepared for outdoor use. When working with 24 VDC voltage, a compatible transformer or driver is required. It is recommended that installation be carried out by a qualified electrician.

To preserve the black aluminum finish, clean the surface with a soft, slightly damp cloth. Avoid abrasive products or solvents. Although the lamp is designed for outdoor use, periodically check the condition of the cables and connections, especially if the space is exposed to humidity or temperature variations.

Design and use

The CLAP pendant by FARO is designed for outdoor spaces with a ceiling: porch, covered gallery, pergola, interior courtyard, or roofed terrace. Its aluminum profile is deliberately understated — black, slim, without ornamentation — so that the lamp does not draw attention to itself, but rather to what it illuminates.

The COB LED light source with a 38° angle concentrates the beam precisely. This allows it to be used as an accent spotlight over a table, an architectural element, a planted area, or any point that needs to be highlighted. The 3000K temperature produces warm light that works well both in modern clean-line settings and in environments with natural materials or rustic finishes.

The system to which this luminaire belongs was designed with visual coherence as a guiding principle. If the lighting needs to be extended to the garden or uncovered outdoor patio, the other CLAP pieces — stakes, bollards, wall lights — share the same formal language. This way, the transition between the interior, the porch, and the garden is integrated without abrupt style changes.

The pendant operates at 24 VDC, meaning low voltage. This is relevant in outdoor installations where electrical safety is a priority. The required driver is not included, but is standard in this type of installation.

At a weight of 1.67 kg, the lamp is light for what it offers. Aluminum is a material that holds up well under outdoor conditions: it does not oxidize easily and maintains its finish without requiring frequent maintenance. The black color absorbs solar heat but does not compromise the performance of the internal components if the installation is done correctly.

In terms of visual comfort, if the situation requires it, an anti-glare visor with reference 75714-2 can be added. It is a compatible accessory that reduces glare when the lights are at eye level — something common in galleries or outdoor corridors where people walk directly beneath the lamp.

The effect it produces in a well-considered outdoor space is that of controlled, characterful lighting: without dispersion, without light lost toward the sky, with all the energy directed to the chosen point. For those looking to create an atmosphere with a touch of theatricality — that interplay of light and shadow that transforms a porch or gallery into a space with personality — this outdoor pendant lamp fulfills that function efficiently and discreetly.

Questions and answers

Does this pendant lamp require an external driver to operate, given that it works at 24 VDC?

Yes. As it operates at 24 VDC, the lamp requires a compatible transformer or driver that is not included. It is advisable to consult with an electrician before installation to choose the appropriate driver for the planned installation.

Is it possible to combine this pendant with other elements of the CLAP system in the same outdoor space?

Yes, the CLAP pendant is part of an outdoor lighting system with a unified aesthetic. It can be combined with stakes, bollards, wall lights, and projectors from the same series to maintain visual coherence in the garden, patio, or terrace.

Does the 38° angle significantly limit the illuminated area beneath the lamp?

The 38° angle corresponds to a concentrated beam, designed for accent lighting. It illuminates a specific area well — a table, a decorative element, an entrance — but it is not designed for broad general lighting. If more surface area needs to be covered, more than one unit can be used in the same installation.
