Overview

The SCUBA 1200 lamp by FARO is a pendant luminaire designed from the outset to withstand outdoor conditions. It works on terraces, patios, porches, and gardens without humidity or rain being a problem. At the same time, its clean shape and chrome finish make it easy to fit in industrial interiors, open kitchens, or workspaces where something different from conventional lights is desired.

The beam of light exits from one side of the tube, creating an interesting directional effect. It does not illuminate in all directions: it concentrates the light where it matters. This makes it especially useful for highlighting specific areas, such as an outdoor table, a garden corner, or a covered entrance.

FARO is a Spanish company with decades of experience in lighting. Its products combine functional design with materials built to last, both indoors and outdoors.

Installation and specifications

To install this pendant lamp on the ceiling, it is necessary to ensure that the anchor point can support at least twice the weight of the product. The cable should remain taut but without mechanical pressure on the electrical connection. If wall installation is desired, the orientation of the tube changes, but the fixing process is similar. For both positions there is a connection canopy (reference 75755, not included) that covers the anchor and provides a clean finish. It is recommended that installation be carried out by a qualified electrician, especially outdoors.

The PC diffuser and the 316L stainless steel body do not require complicated maintenance. To clean the surface, simply use a soft, slightly damp cloth. Abrasive products or solvents should not be used. In outdoor installations, it is advisable to periodically check that the sealing points are in good condition, especially if the lamp is exposed to frequent wind or rain.

Design and use

The 1200 mm long tube defines the silhouette of this pendant luminaire. It is a long, horizontal, and compact piece, with only 74 mm in diameter. That proportion gives it an industrial look without appearing visually heavy. It hangs from the ceiling with a cable of up to 1000 mm, allowing the height to be adjusted according to the space.

The main material is 316L stainless steel, a variant that is especially resistant to corrosion, even in marine environments or those with high humidity. This is why this lamp not only performs well on a porch or a covered terrace, but also in more exposed areas. The IP66 protection rating confirms that it can withstand direct rain and the ingress of dust or solid particles without the internal system being affected. Added to this is an impact resistance rating of IK10, the highest possible level, meaning it can withstand impacts that would damage any conventional luminaire.

The opal polycarbonate diffuser distributes the light evenly within the tube and prevents direct glare. The colour temperature is 3000K, a warm light that does not strain the eyes. In a garden, that warm tone makes the atmosphere feel more welcoming at night. On a patio or porch, it reinforces that feeling of being in a sheltered and well-defined space.

The industrial style of SCUBA works well in contexts where other types of lights would seem out of place. A kitchen with steel elements, a venue with exposed concrete ceilings, a contemporary-style outdoor gallery, or even a porch with a more rustic design using natural materials: in all these cases, the chrome finish of the tube interacts well with the surroundings without imposing itself.

Outdoors, this pendant luminaire can be used above a garden table, clearly defining the space. It also works at the entrance of a home, hung under a porch, or in a pergola where a seating area needs to be defined. It does not need to be the only light source: combined with other wall lights or spotlights, it can form part of a more complete lighting scheme.

Indoors, it fits in long corridors, industrial kitchens, or workshops where the robustness of the material is valued as much as the design. The fact that the light source is already included simplifies setup: there is no need to look for compatibility or make additional purchases beyond the optional canopy.

The 36W version with SMD LED technology offers efficient lighting with energy class B. It operates with voltages between 100V and 240V, making it compatible with electrical installations in different countries without the need for additional adapters.

Questions and answers

Can the SCUBA 1200 lamp be installed on both the ceiling and the wall?

Yes. This pendant luminaire supports both positions. For either of them, it is recommended to use the connection canopy (reference 75755), which is not included but is compatible with both versions.

What level of protection does it offer against rain and impacts?

It has IP66 certification, which guarantees total protection against dust and resistance to powerful water jets. It also has IK10 impact resistance, the highest level on this scale.

Is 316L stainless steel suitable for coastal areas or those with high humidity?

316L stainless steel is especially recommended for environments with high humidity or salinity, such as areas near the sea. It is one of the most corrosion-resistant variants within this family of materials.
