Overview

The SAIGON W70 pendant lamp by FARO is a luminaire designed for outdoor spaces where lighting must coexist with rain, wind, and temperature changes. It is installed directly on the ceiling and hangs with a clean shape, without elements that visually overload the space. It works well on a covered terrace, at the entrance of a house, or under a porch where pleasant ambient light is desired without the lamp drawing too much attention.

The shade is made of synthetic rattan in a brown tone, with an inverted cone shape. This material gives it a warm texture reminiscent of craftsmanship, but without the problems of natural rattan outdoors. The SAIGON collection, designed by Nahtrang, is characterized by clean lines and unadorned shapes, which makes this lamp fit both in modern settings and in environments with a more rustic style.

FARO is a Spanish brand with decades of experience in lighting. It works with specialized designers and directs a large part of its catalogue toward outdoor use, with attention to detail in materials and finishes.

Installation and specifications

To install this pendant lamp, a ceiling light point with wiring suitable for outdoor use is required. Before starting, it is advisable to cut the power at the electrical panel. The ceiling mounting system must be able to support at least the declared weight of the product. If the ceiling is made of soft or hollow material, it is advisable to use anchors specific to that type of surface. The electrical connection must be carried out by a person with knowledge of electrical installations or a qualified professional.

The synthetic rattan shade can be cleaned with a damp cloth and without abrasive products. The aluminum body with dark grey finish is durable, but it is advisable to avoid the accumulation of dirt in the joints. No part of the lamp should be submerged in water or exposed to direct jets of water. To maintain proper functioning, periodically check that the mounting points are secure and that the E27 socket is properly fitted.

Design and use

The SAIGON collection was born with a specific idea: to bring a simple and recognizable aesthetic to the outdoors, without artifice. The W70 pendant lamp is the largest shade piece in this line, and its conical format in brown synthetic rattan gives it a clear presence without feeling visually heavy. When lit, the light passes through the weave and creates a diffuse effect that spreads downward and to the sides, without harsh spots or abrupt shadows.

The body is made of aluminum with a dark grey finish, a material that withstands outdoor conditions well and that combines with the brown tone of the shade without being overly contrasted. This color combination works especially well on terraces with wooden or stone floors, where the ensemble does not clash with the natural surroundings. In a garden with vegetation, the lamp integrates well without competing with the elements around it.

The opal diffuser distributes light evenly, making the illuminated space beneath the lamp feel welcoming without overly bright areas. For a patio used frequently at night, this makes a real difference: the light accompanies without disturbing. In an outdoor gallery or a pergola, this type of ambient lighting is exactly what is sought.

The synthetic rattan shade has an advantage over natural materials: it does not deteriorate with moisture or lose its shape with temperature changes. It maintains its original appearance for longer and requires minimal maintenance. Visually, it provides a warmth that other synthetic materials do not achieve, and this makes the lamp work well in both rustic styles and more modern settings.

With its total height of 680 mm and diameter of 680 mm, it is a generously sized piece. It is not intended for small spaces, but for areas where it has room to be seen from various angles. Under a wide porch, at the entrance of a house with a high ceiling, or hanging above an outdoor garden table, the lamp occupies the space in a balanced way. In a small balcony it would be excessive, but in the right spaces it is exactly the scale the eye expects.

It uses an E27 socket and supports LED bulbs of up to 15 W. The bulb is not included, so it is worth choosing one with a warm color temperature to complement the tone of the rattan. A light that is too cool would detract from part of the effect that the brown shade creates naturally. The universal voltage between 100V and 240V makes it compatible with electrical installations in different countries.

Questions and answers

Does the synthetic rattan shade hold up well against rain and outdoor humidity?

Yes. Unlike natural rattan, the synthetic material does not absorb water or deform with moisture. It is designed specifically for outdoor use and maintains its shape and appearance over time, provided the lamp is installed in a covered or semi-open area.

What type of bulb is recommended for this pendant lamp?

The lamp uses an E27 socket and supports LED bulbs of up to 15 W. The bulb is not included. To make the most of the effect of the opal diffuser and the tone of the brown shade, a LED bulb with a warm color temperature, around 2700–3000 K, is recommended.

Does the dark grey aluminum body withstand outdoor conditions well without additional protection?

Aluminum is a material that tolerates outdoor exposure well. The dark grey finish is applied for outdoor use and does not require additional treatment. A periodic wipe with a damp cloth is sufficient to keep the luminaire body in good condition.
