Overview

MISTU is an outdoor pendant lamp designed for open-air spaces where continuous light and a tidy appearance are desired. It works well at entrances, porches, terraces, or covered passageways. Its opal diffuser distributes light evenly, without bright spots or harsh shadows.

The body is made of aluminium with a dark grey finish, and the diffuser is made of opal PMMA. These two material choices make the lamp withstand outdoor conditions without issues, where temperatures change and humidity is common. The overall look is contemporary, without unnecessary decorative details. It is not a rustic lamp in a traditional style, although it can be integrated into environments that mix styles.

FARO is a Spanish brand with a long track record in lighting. Their products are found in residential projects and public spaces. MISTU is part of their outdoor lighting catalogue, designed for domestic use in fixed installations.

Installation and specifications

To install this pendant lamp, a ceiling light point prepared for outdoor use is required. The fixture is mounted directly on the ceiling, so the surface must be solid and in good condition. The wiring must be suitable for outdoor use. If you have no experience with electrical installations, it is advisable to hire an electrician. The E27 LED bulb is not included and must be purchased separately; verify that it is compatible with outdoor use if the point is exposed to humidity.

The PMMA diffuser can be cleaned with a soft, slightly damp cloth. Avoid abrasive products or solvents, as they can damage the opal surface. The dark grey aluminium body requires no special maintenance, but it is advisable to periodically check the condition of the connections, especially in areas with frequent rain or a marine environment.

Design and use

MISTU is a suspension luminaire designed to hang in covered or semi-protected outdoor spaces. Its vertical structure, with a total height of 1575 mm, makes it a lamp that occupies space cleanly, without unnecessary volume. The 200 mm diameter is sufficient to project light over an everyday-use area without looking out of proportion in medium-sized spaces.

The aluminium body gives it solidity without adding excessive weight. At 1.67 kg in total, it does not require complex anchoring, although as with any outdoor pendant lamp it is advisable to ensure the ceiling point is properly secured. The aluminium in a dark grey finish has a neutral appearance that integrates without difficulty into facades, covered porches, patios with a structure, or passageways. It does not draw excessive attention — it is simply there and fulfils its function.

The opal PMMA diffuser is one of the most relevant elements of this lamp. The opal polycarbonate diffuses the light source and avoids the bright-spot effect that can sometimes be uncomfortable outdoors when looking directly at the lamp. The light that reaches the floor and nearby surfaces is softer and more uniform. This makes it suitable for areas where time is spent, such as a terrace with a table or a porch where guests are received.

The E27 socket is one of the most common, making it easy to find the right bulb. The maximum accepted wattage is 15 W, sufficient for a passageway or a standard-sized terrace. Compatibility with voltages between 100 V and 240 V allows it to be used without adapters in different countries.

In terms of style, MISTU does not fit into the category of classic lantern or rustic lamp with forged details. It has straight lines and a sober finish. It works well in a garden or patio when the architecture of the space is more contemporary, with materials such as concrete, treated wood, or metal. It can also be hung in a pergola or covered gallery, where the cable is protected and the lamp can hang without risk of direct exposure to water.

If there are other outdoor lights with metallic finishes in dark or neutral tones in the same outdoor space, MISTU integrates without creating visual contrast. It is not necessary for everything to be from the same family, but the dark grey of the aluminium is compatible with matte black, anthracite, or even dark colours in joinery or metal structures.

For a garden or patio with a pergola, this luminaire can be used in combination with other more grazing light sources, such as ground spotlights or wall lights. The result is layered lighting where the pendant lamp provides general light and the rest defines the details. In a covered porch or entrance, it can function as the sole light source without the space becoming dark at the edges.

It is also a valid option for a covered balcony if the ceiling point allows installation and the space has sufficient height for the lamp to remain out of normal reach. The total length of cable and body exceeds one and a half metres, so it is worth verifying the available clear height before purchasing.

Questions and answers

Does this pendant lamp accept any E27 bulb or only LED?

The socket is a standard E27. The product name indicates LED as the recommended light source, and the maximum accepted wattage is 15 W. For outdoor use, it is advisable to choose a bulb with adequate protection against humidity.

Is the cable a fixed length or can it be adjusted during installation?

The total height indicated in the specifications is 1575 mm. If you need to adjust the cable length during installation, consult with the installer, as this type of adjustment depends on the internal design of each model and must be done carefully so as not to affect the electrical installation.

Can the opal PMMA diffuser yellow over time due to sun exposure?

PMMA is a material more resistant to yellowing than other plastics when exposed to solar radiation. With basic maintenance — periodic cleaning with a soft cloth — the diffuser maintains its appearance for longer. Even so, intense direct exposure over many years can affect any material.
