Overview

The FARO SAU 156 is an LED projector spotlight designed for outdoor use. It mounts on a wall and points directly toward the ground, a plant, or any garden element you want to highlight. With a 30º beam angle, the light is concentrated on a specific point without spreading to the sides.

It is a solid option for those looking for decorative lighting on terraces, entrances, or landscaped areas. It takes up no floor space and does not interfere with foot traffic. Its black design, austere and clean-lined, fits effortlessly on modern façades or gardens with a defined style.

FARO is a Spanish brand with decades of experience in lighting. They design and manufacture products for both indoor and outdoor use, with attention to construction detail and durability under real-world conditions.

Installation and specifications

Preparation and installation. This projector is fixed directly to a wall using the included anchors. Before installing, make sure the surface is firm and can support the weight of the unit. It is advisable to locate existing electrical conduits before drilling. The connection must be made with the power off. If you have no experience with outdoor electrical installations, consult an electrician. Orient the spotlight toward the element you want to illuminate before fully tightening the screws, to adjust the angle precisely.

Use and care. The IP65 protection allows the projector to operate in rainy and humid conditions without problems. To clean it, simply wipe the housing with a damp cloth. Do not use abrasive products or solvents on the aluminum body or the PC diffuser. Periodically check that the anchors remain firmly secured, especially after storms or strong winds. The LED bulb is included and does not require frequent replacement.

Design and use

The SAU 156 has a compact body made of aluminium and ABS. The aluminium provides structural strength and helps dissipate the heat generated by the COB LED module, which directly affects the lifespan of the projector. The ABS complements the construction in areas where lightness is needed without sacrificing rigidity. The unit weighs 1.67 kg, a figure that reflects the solidity of the product without making it excessively heavy for the wall.

The diffuser is made of transparent polycarbonate. This material handles temperature changes and prolonged sun exposure well, which is relevant when the spotlight is mounted on a south-facing façade or in an area with many hours of direct radiation. It does not yellow over time as easily as other plastics, and maintains light transmission without distortion.

The light source is an integrated COB LED operating at 3000K. That temperature corresponds to warm light, similar to that of a traditional incandescent bulb. In gardens, that tone makes plants, stones, and natural materials look more vibrant and textured. It is the type of light that gives character to an outdoor night space without feeling cold or clinical.

The 30º angle makes it a precise reflector. It is not a luminaire designed to illuminate a wide area, but to concentrate the beam on a single point: the trunk of a tree, a palm, a stone wall, a garden statue, the entrance to a home. In those types of applications, the precision of the angle makes all the difference. If you need to cover a larger surface, you can combine several spotlights oriented strategically.

As for wall mounting, the spotlight extends outward from the surface and allows the beam to be directed downward, toward the ground, or diagonally. This also makes it useful for illuminating steps or the access path from the side. Installed low on a façade and pointing toward a planter, it creates a grazing light effect that highlights the texture of any material.

The matte black finish of the body is discreet during the day. It does not draw attention or contrast sharply with façades in neutral colors, anthracite gray, or exposed brick. At night, the spotlight visually disappears and lets the light take center stage, not the fixture.

The IP65 protection guarantees complete dust-tightness and resistance to direct water jets. This means it can be left outdoors without any additional shelter. For a patio, an uncovered terrace, or an open garden, this is a basic requirement that this projector meets without restriction.

Questions and answers

Is the LED light source included or does it need to be purchased separately?

The COB LED light source is included with the projector. No additional bulb needs to be purchased to start using it.

Is the 30º beam angle fixed or can it be modified?

The beam aperture angle is fixed at 30º. What you can adjust is the orientation of the spotlight at the time of installation, by tilting it before securing it permanently to the wall.

What level of protection does it offer against rain and outdoor humidity?

It has IP65 protection, meaning it is completely sealed against dust and resistant to direct water jets. It can be installed outdoors without shelter and requires no additional protection.
