Overview

The FARO BU-OH lamp is an outdoor beacon designed to be mounted on a wall and project light in four directions. Its shape is reminiscent of an owl's eyes, a design detail that makes it more than just a simple light source. It was created by Estudi Ribaudí, a studio with experience in decorative lighting, and is part of FARO's outdoor range, a brand with a track record in the residential and professional luminaire sector.

This lantern works well at house entrances, gardens, terraces and patios. It can be installed on a fence, a column or directly on the exterior wall. The lamp emits warm light at 3000K, creating a calm atmosphere without visual harshness, suitable for evening or nighttime moments when you want to highlight the outdoor space without overwhelming it.

The body is made of aluminum in dark grey and the diffuser is opal polycarbonate. The unit is solid, resistant to outdoor use and easy to integrate into different types of facades.

Installation and specifications

For installation, this lamp is fixed directly to the wall using the wall-mounted system. Before fitting the lantern, check that the exterior surface is clean, level and capable of supporting the weight of the unit. The wiring must be routed to the fixing point before placing the lamp; it is recommended that the electrical installation be carried out by a qualified technician. Make sure to cut the power before starting any work at the light point.

For maintenance, clean the aluminum body with a soft, slightly damp cloth. Do not use abrasive products or solvents that could damage the finish. The opal polycarbonate diffuser may accumulate dust outdoors; periodic cleaning with water and mild soap is sufficient to maintain the light transmission level. Do not handle the interior of the lamp if you do not have experience in electrical work.

Design and use

The BU-OH lantern starts from a very specific visual idea: an owl's eyes. This reference is not merely aesthetic; it defines the structure of the post and the way light exits to the outside. The lamp has openings on all four sides, allowing the beam to be distributed uniformly around the installation point. There are no shadow zones on the ground or blind angles, something that is especially noticeable when the lantern is placed at the entrance of a house or at the start of a garden path.

The body is made of aluminum, a material that withstands temperature changes and the humidity typical of outdoor environments. The dark grey finish is discreet and blends effortlessly with modern facades, stone cladding or brick walls. It does not compete with its surroundings, it simply integrates. Unlike other lanterns with more eye-catching finishes, this post opts for a restrained presence that does not age over the years.

The opal polycarbonate diffuser serves an important function: it softens the light output and prevents direct glare. The 12W LED with a color temperature of 3000K produces a warm light that is not harsh. It is the type of lighting that turns a terrace or patio into a livable space at night, without the coldness of higher color temperatures or the lack of power found in weaker decorative solutions.

The wall-mounted fixing allows this lantern to be installed on any exterior wall, whether on the main facade, a perimeter fence or a terrace wall. This option is practical because it does not require groundwork or the installation of a separate post. The lamp is anchored to the surface and the wiring is integrated from the back.

In a garden, this type of beacon can be used to mark the perimeter, guide the path to the door or indicate steps and changes in level. On a terrace, it provides atmosphere without the need to install ceiling luminaires. In the backyard, the lantern works well alongside plants, planters or wooden elements, as the warm light enhances the natural tones of the surroundings.

The BU-OH series is part of FARO's design lamps, where form carries as much weight as function. It is an option for those looking for something with its own character outdoors, without sacrificing ease of installation or LED efficiency.

Questions and answers

Does the BU-OH lamp emit light only to the front or in more directions?

This lantern projects light on all four sides, allowing uniform distribution around the installation point. It is useful when you need to illuminate a wide area from a single fixed point on the wall.

Is the LED included or does it need to be purchased separately?

The 12W LED light source is integrated into the lamp and is included from the factory. No additional components need to be purchased for the lantern to function.

How much does this lantern weigh and what type of wall does it need for installation?

The net weight of the unit is 2.15 kg. It is installed using a wall-mounted fixing, so the wall must be solid and capable of supporting that weight stably. It is recommended to use appropriate anchors according to the material of the exterior wall.
