Overview

The TRAS recessed fixture by FARO is a luminaire designed to be installed in the ground in outdoor spaces. It meets IP67 protection, meaning it withstands rain and the ingress of solid particles without issue. It is an option designed to mark pathways, indicate transit areas, or delimit zones in gardens, patios, building entrances, or landscaped environments.

The spotlight is recessed directly into the floor, with no visible cables or protruding elements. The light sits at ground level and guides the way naturally, without drawing too much attention during the day and proving functional when night falls. It is made of aluminium with a matte black finish and a transparent glass diffuser, a combination that fits well in both modern environments and more understated spaces.

FARO is a Spanish brand with decades of experience in lighting. Its outdoor products are designed to withstand continuous use under real conditions: rain, dust, variable temperatures. The TRAS recessed fixture is part of that line of products built to last over time without requiring constant attention.

Installation and specifications

To install this recessed floor fixture, the recessed box with reference 71703 is required, which is sold separately. The luminaire operates at 24VDC, so it requires a transformer or power supply compatible with that voltage. Before starting installation, make sure the electrical circuit is completely disconnected. It is recommended that the work be carried out by a qualified electrician, especially in outdoor installations where moisture may be present. The floor where it is installed must have sufficient depth to accommodate the box without it being exposed.

The aluminium body requires no special maintenance, but it is advisable to clean the glass diffuser occasionally to maintain good light distribution. Use a soft cloth and clean water. Avoid abrasive products or solvents that could damage the surface. Do not disassemble the luminaire while it is connected to the power supply.

Design and use

The TRAS is a recessed floor spotlight designed for outdoor use. Its main function is signalling illumination: marking pathways, indicating level changes, delimiting garden edges, or guiding pedestrian traffic in circulation areas. Installed flush with the floor, it does not visually interfere with the surroundings during the day. At night, the light projects upward creating a clean, directional effect.

The body is made of aluminium with a matte black finish. This material withstands prolonged outdoor exposure well, without deforming or rusting easily. The matte black blends discreetly into stone, concrete, treated wood, or gravel surfaces. It does not stand out excessively — it is simply there and does its job.

The diffuser is made of transparent glass. This allows the light to come through without unnecessary filtering, with good intensity and no distortion. The colour temperature is 3000K, a warm tone that is pleasant in gardens or entrances, and does not produce the cold or clinical feeling of higher-temperature spotlights.

The SMD LED light source is already included, with a power output of 8W. It is sufficient for effective signalling without excessive consumption. The operating voltage is 24VDC, which places it within the low-voltage systems commonly used in garden or patio lighting installations.

This recessed fixture works well when installed in series along a pathway or staircase, creating a line of light that guides the route. It can also be used on a terrace to mark the boundaries of a seating area, or on a façade as a signalling element at the main entrance. In patios with continuous paving, several aligned spotlights define the space without the need for additional elements.

Due to its compact dimensions — 92 mm per side and 63 mm in height — it fits in spaces where a projector or conventional lamp would be excessive. Its weight of 0.4 kg makes it easy to handle during installation. IP67 protection ensures that neither water nor dust compromises its operation, even in areas directly exposed to rain or near water features.

In terms of combinations, this recessed floor spotlight pairs well with a wall luminaire or garden bollards when a more complete lighting scheme is desired. On its own, it perfectly fulfils the signalling function. Together with other light points, it can contribute to a balanced outdoor lighting scheme that covers both the vertical plane and the ground.

Questions and answers

Is the recessed box included with the TRAS or does it need to be purchased separately?

The recessed box is not included. It must be purchased separately with reference 71703. Without it, it is not possible to complete the installation of the recessed fixture in the floor.

Can the TRAS be installed in an area where water falls directly, such as near an irrigation system?

Yes. The luminaire features IP67 protection, which covers exposure to water even during temporary submersion. It is suitable for garden areas with irrigation or direct exposure to rain.

Does the 24VDC voltage require any additional element besides the recessed box?

Yes. As it operates at 24VDC, the spotlight requires a power supply or transformer that converts the mains voltage to 24V direct current. This element is not included and must be purchased separately.
