Overview

The FARO SAU 471 is an outdoor LED spotlight designed to illuminate gardens, plants, facades and decorative elements with precision and style. Its sleek shape and black finish make it easy to integrate into modern environments without drawing too much attention to itself. The spotlight directs light at a 30º angle, allowing the beam to be concentrated exactly where needed, without unnecessary dispersion.

This spotlight works well in open spaces: a garden with vegetation, an entrance, a patio or a terrace with elements worth highlighting. The IP65 protection ensures that rain and dust do not affect the spotlight's performance over time.

FARO is a Spanish company with decades of experience in lighting. Their outdoor products combine careful design with materials built to withstand real-world conditions.

Installation and specifications

For installation, an outdoor power outlet or a circuit prepared for outdoor use is required. The fixture is wall-mounted, so it is important to ensure that the surface is solid and capable of supporting the weight of the spotlight. It is recommended to use appropriate plugs and screws for the type of wall. If you do not have experience with outdoor electrical installations, the safest option is to hire an electrician.

To keep the spotlight in good condition, simply clean the outer surface with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive products or solvents that could damage the black finish of the body or the PC diffuser. Before any cleaning or inspection, always disconnect the power supply.

Design and use

The SAU 471 is a ground and wall spotlight in one: although its primary mounting is on a wall, its spike-like aesthetic visually integrates it into the garden environment as if it were part of the ground. The body is made of aluminium combined with ABS, two materials that provide structural strength without adding excessive weight. The result is a robust spotlight that is neither heavy nor bulky on the wall.

The transparent PC diffuser protects the light source without filtering or altering the tone of the illumination. The 3000K colour temperature produces a warm light, close to traditional incandescent light, which is pleasant in residential settings. In a garden, this type of light enhances the natural appearance of plants and materials such as stone or wood.

The integrated COB LED light source offers uniform distribution within the 30º angle. This type of LED concentrates light emission in a specific area, making it a particularly useful spotlight for highlighting individual elements: a tree, a sculpture, a stone wall or a section of hedge. It is not a general ambient light, but an accent spotlight that works best when there is something specific to illuminate.

The matte black finish of the body means the spotlight integrates well both in gardens with dense vegetation and in more minimalist spaces with gravel or stone flooring. During the day it goes almost unnoticed; at night, the light it projects takes centre stage. This discretion is one of the characteristics that make it versatile in different types of gardens or outdoor patios.

The IP65 protection means the spotlight is prepared for direct exposure to rain and dust. It does not require any additional cover, nor does it need to be removed during rainy seasons. It is designed to remain installed throughout the year under normal outdoor conditions.

Although the installation is on a wall, the tilt angle of the spotlight allows the light to be directed towards the ground or vertical elements depending on the height and orientation at which it is mounted. This provides room to adjust the lighting effect without the need for additional accessories. A spotlight installed at mid-height on a garden wall can illuminate the base of a plant, the ground around a path or the texture of a stone facade with very different results depending on the chosen orientation.

In terms of consumption, the maximum power of 13W places it in an efficient range for continuous use. It is not a high-power floodlight designed to illuminate large surfaces, but a precise spotlight whose value lies in concentrating light on a specific point.

Questions and answers

Is the COB LED light source included or does it need to be purchased separately?

The light source is included. The spotlight arrives ready to install, with no need to purchase any additional lighting components.

Is IP65 protection sufficient to leave it installed outdoors all year round?

Yes. The IP65 rating indicates full protection against dust and resistance to water jets from any direction, making it suitable for permanent outdoor use under normal weather conditions.

Is the 30º angle fixed or can it be adjusted during installation?

The 30º light emission angle corresponds to the beam aperture of the COB LED. The orientation of the spotlight itself can be adjusted depending on how the projector is positioned on the wall during mounting.
