Overview

The FARO SAU 471 is an LED projector designed for outdoor use. Its main function is to illuminate specific elements in the garden: plants, shrubs, walls, sculptures, or any detail worth highlighting when night falls. The 20º opening angle concentrates the light beam with precision, allowing the spotlight to be directed exactly where needed, without unnecessary dispersion.

The design is compact with clean lines. The black finish allows it to blend in without drawing attention during the day, and to do its job discreetly when switched on. It does not visually compete with the surroundings: it simply enhances them.

FARO is a brand with a long track record in indoor and outdoor lighting. Their products combine functionality with aesthetic sensibility, designed for those who seek results without technical complications.

Installation and specifications

Preparation and installation. This projector is wall-mounted, so before installing it, it is advisable to identify a solid surface that can support the weight and allow the beam to be directed towards the element to be illuminated. It is recommended that the electrical installation be carried out by a qualified professional, especially outdoors. Verify that the available wiring is compatible with the indicated voltage (220V-240V) and that the installation point is protected from direct impacts. The orientation of the spotlight should be planned before permanently fixing the bracket.

Use and maintenance. The IP65 protection ensures that the projector is resistant to dust and water jets, making it easy to clean. To keep the body in good condition, simply wipe it periodically with a damp cloth. Avoid using abrasive products or solvents on the black finish. Do not handle the luminaire while the installation is connected to the electrical supply. The COB LED light source is included and does not require frequent replacement under normal usage conditions.

Design and use

The SAU 471 is built with an aluminium and ABS body, a combination that offers mechanical resistance without adding excessive weight. The aluminium provides rigidity and effectively dissipates the heat generated by the LED module, while the ABS allows more precise shapes in the parts that are not exposed to structural stress. The diffuser is made of transparent polycarbonate, a material that withstands temperature changes and prolonged outdoor exposure without yellowing or becoming opaque over time.

The black colour of the body is not merely an aesthetic choice. Outdoors, a dark finish blends into the natural surroundings, especially in gardens with dense vegetation or stone and concrete walls. During the day, the projector goes unnoticed. At night, the warm 3000K light creates a defined atmosphere without being harsh. That colour temperature is the most common in decorative garden lighting because it is close to traditional incandescent light and generates a sense of warmth.

The 20º angle makes this model a precision spotlight. It is not a projector designed to illuminate large surfaces, but to highlight a specific element: the trunk of a tree, a large plant pot, a decorative panel on the façade, or the course of an outdoor staircase. That ability to concentrate light is what sets this type of luminaire apart from other wide-angle spotlights.

In medium-sized gardens or backyards, several of these projectors placed strategically can create layered lighting: some pointing at the vegetation, others grazing the walls, and some directed towards the ground to mark a path or border. The result is a space with visual depth, where light builds the atmosphere rather than simply making the surroundings visible.

It also works well on façades, where the reflector can be used to highlight a stone or brick texture. The warmth of the 3000K light suits these natural materials, as it enhances their earthy tones without distorting them. On a terrace with plants, the spotlight directed upwards from the ground creates a dramatic effect that completely changes the perception of the space at nightfall.

The weight of 1,67 kg makes it manageable during installation, yet solid enough not to move in the wind or with occasional vibrations. The height of 471 mm allows a good focal distance from the mounting point to the illuminated element, giving room to adjust the angle comfortably.

Questions and answers

Does the SAU 471 projector include the light source or does it need to be purchased separately?

The 13W COB LED light source is included with the projector. It is not necessary to purchase it separately or carry out any additional lamp installation before mounting the unit.

What level of water protection does this model offer for outdoor use?

The SAU 471 has IP65 protection, meaning it is completely protected against dust and resistant to direct water jets. It is suitable for outdoor installation without the need for additional protection against rain.

Is the 3000K colour temperature suitable for illuminating plants and vegetation in the garden?

Yes. The 3000K light is warm and flatters the greens and earthy tones characteristic of vegetation. It is the most common temperature in decorative garden lighting because it creates a pleasant atmosphere without altering the natural colour perception of plants.
