Overview

The SCREEN beacon by FARO is an outdoor lamp designed to illuminate pathways, gardens, and green areas. It is installed directly in the ground and provides directed light that defines the space without visually overwhelming the surroundings. The asymmetric 180-degree distribution option allows the lighting to be oriented where it is needed, which is useful when you want to highlight a specific area without dispersing light in all directions.

The body is constructed from aluminum with a transparent polycarbonate diffuser. Both materials are designed to withstand continuous outdoor use: aluminum holds up well against temperature changes, and polycarbonate does not deteriorate with prolonged exposure to the environment. IP65 protection ensures that neither rain nor dust affects the lamp's operation. The IK10 impact resistance rating adds an additional layer of safety against accidental knocks, which is appreciated in high-traffic areas.

FARO is a company with a long track record in the design and manufacture of luminaires for residential and professional use. Their products combine functionality with refined finishes, making them suitable for both domestic installations and larger-scale projects.

Installation and specifications

Before installing the lamp, it is advisable to prepare the anchoring point in the ground in advance. As a ground-mounted luminaire, an outdoor power outlet or underground wiring to the installation point must be in place. It is recommended that electrical work be carried out by a qualified professional, especially in outdoor installations where moisture may be present. Verify that the mains voltage is compatible with the 100V–240V range indicated in the specifications before connecting the lamp.

To keep the lamp in good condition, clean the body and diffuser with a dry or slightly damp cloth. Avoid using abrasive products or solvents that could damage the dark gray aluminum finish or the polycarbonate surface. Do not handle the electrical installation while the lamp is connected to the mains. Periodically check the condition of the outdoor wiring to detect any possible deterioration.

Design and use

The SCREEN beacon is part of a technical collection designed specifically for outdoor use. It is not a conventional decorative lamp, but rather a lighting tool that addresses specific needs: marking routes, defining perimeters, illuminating access points, or highlighting areas in gardens and parks. Its height of 800 mm positions it at a distance from the ground that allows light to be projected onto the surface without dazzling those walking nearby.

The aluminum body in a dark gray finish gives it a sober appearance that integrates well into different types of environments. It does not draw excessive attention during the day, and at night it fulfills its function without unnecessary prominence. The transparent polycarbonate diffuser allows light to pass through cleanly, without color filters or optical effects that alter the perception of the space. In a garden with vegetation, that kind of direct, clear light helps to see the ground and surrounding elements well without creating confusing shadow areas.

The color temperature of 4000K corresponds to a neutral white light, slightly cool. It is neither the warmth of a candle nor the coldness of an operating room: it sits at an intermediate point that is comfortable for continuously used spaces. In a garden or park, that tone makes it possible to clearly distinguish the true colors of plants and materials, which is useful both for everyday use and for installations with a certain aesthetic consideration.

The optical system with asymmetric 180-degree distribution is a feature that sets it apart from a conventional beacon. It allows the light beam to be directed toward one specific side, which is especially useful when the lamp is placed next to a wall, a fence, or the boundary of a green area. Instead of illuminating symmetrically in all directions, it concentrates the light where it is truly needed. This also reduces the effect of light pollution toward areas where light is not wanted.

The integrated COB LED light source operates at a maximum power of 20 W, sufficient to cover the typical usage area of a garden beacon. The LED is already included, so no additional purchase is needed before installation. The wide voltage range, from 100 to 240 V, makes it compatible with electrical installations in different countries without the need for adapters.

IP65 protection means that the lamp is sealed against dust ingress and resistant to direct water jets. In practice, this means it withstands rain, garden irrigation, or water cleaning without any issues. The IK10 rating is the maximum level of resistance to mechanical impact, making it a suitable option for high-traffic areas where the risk of accidental knocks is greater. These features make the lamp a good choice for installations in public or semi-public spaces, such as communal access areas or shared spaces in residential developments. In a frequently used patio or garden terrace, that robustness also makes itself felt over the long term.

Questions and answers

Does the SCREEN beacon include the light source or does it need to be purchased separately?

The lamp includes the integrated COB LED light source. No additional components need to be purchased before installation.

What does IP65 protection mean for the everyday use of this outdoor lamp?

The IP65 rating indicates that the lamp is completely sealed against dust and protected against water jets from any direction. In practice, it withstands direct rain and garden irrigation without any issues.

What is the purpose of the asymmetric 180-degree distribution option on this beacon?

It allows the light beam to be directed toward a single direction instead of illuminating in a circular pattern. It is useful when the beacon is placed next to a boundary, a wall, or the edge of a pathway, concentrating the illumination where it is needed.
