Overview

The FARO DAS bollard is an outdoor lamp designed to illuminate paths, entrances and gardens with warm, even light. It is installed directly in the ground and reaches a height of 65 cm, making it a visible and functional piece at the same time. Its transparent glass diffuser lets light through without filtering it excessively, and the dark grey die-cast aluminium body holds up well in outdoor conditions.

It is an option designed for those who want to visually organise a garden or patio without resorting to complicated solutions. The lamp works with integrated LED technology, consumes little energy and offers a 3000K tone that feels warm and pleasant at nightfall.

FARO is a Spanish brand with a long track record in both indoor and outdoor lighting. Their products combine solid construction with functional design, built to last and to fit into different environments without looking out of place.

Installation and specifications

Preparation and installation. This bollard is fixed to the ground by anchoring at the base. Before installing it, make sure the outdoor wiring is properly protected and prepared for outdoor use. If you have no experience with electrical installations, it is advisable to hire an electrician. The lamp accepts a voltage range of 100V to 240V, making it compatible with the standard electrical grid. Make sure the power supply is switched off throughout the entire assembly process.

Use and maintenance. Clean the surface of the body with a dry or slightly damp cloth. Avoid abrasive products or solvents that may damage the aluminium finish. The glass diffuser may accumulate dust or dirt over time; clean it carefully to maintain light quality. Do not modify the internal wiring or replace the light source with one other than that specified.

Design and use

The DAS bollard is an outdoor lamp that combines durable materials with a sober aesthetic. The body, made from die-cast aluminium with a dark grey finish, has a narrow profile — 54 mm deep — that does not take up excessive space and integrates well into different types of garden, from the most orderly to those with a more natural appearance.

The transparent glass diffuser is one of the most notable elements of this lamp. Unlike opaline diffusers, transparent glass allows the light source inside to be seen and projects the glow more directly into the surroundings. The result is a lantern with a crisp appearance, with visual presence both during the day and at night.

The light source is an 8W COB LED that emits 480 lumens at 3000K. This colour temperature produces a warm light, similar to that of an electric candle, which is pleasant in rest or leisure spaces. It is not a powerful light in terms of raw lumens, but it is sufficient to mark paths, define areas of the garden or create a decorative atmosphere at nightfall.

At 65 cm in height, the bollard sits at a distance from the ground that illuminates the immediate surroundings without dazzling people passing nearby. This is a common height for outdoor bollards and works well both on pedestrian access routes and along the edges of terraces or patios. Several units placed at regular intervals create an orderly and visually coherent trail of lights.

The FARO DAS series also includes a wall light and a bollard of another size, making it possible to combine different elements within the same garden or outdoor space while maintaining a unified look. Using the same lantern in different formats within the same space is a simple way to achieve visual coherence without the need for major design decisions.

The dark grey finish means the lamp goes unnoticed during the day, blending in with the ground, vegetation or paving materials. At night, when the lighting is activated, it takes centre stage without being ostentatious. It is the kind of piece you notice when it is on, but which does not interfere with the overall appearance of the garden when it is off.

As for installation, since it is a ground-mounted lamp, it requires prior preparation of underground or surface wiring. It does not have a sensor or motion system, so its operation depends on the electrical circuit it is connected to. It is also not rechargeable, as it works with a standard electrical supply of between 100V and 240V. This makes it compatible with any standard domestic installation.

The weight of 2.13 kg indicates solid construction for its size. It is not a lightweight plastic bollard, but a piece with a certain physical presence that conveys stability once installed.

Questions and answers

Is the COB LED light source included with the bollard or does it need to be purchased separately?

The light source is included. The DAS bollard incorporates an 8W, 3000K COB LED ready to work from the moment of installation.

Does this bollard work with a motion sensor or an integrated timer?

It does not have an integrated sensor or timer. Its operation depends on the outdoor electrical circuit it is connected to, which can include those elements if they are installed separately in the installation.

Does the dark grey aluminium body hold up well to prolonged exposure to sun and rain?

Die-cast aluminium is a common material in outdoor luminaires precisely because of its resistance. The dark grey finish is designed to maintain its appearance under conditions of continuous outdoor use.
