Overview

The SCREEN beacon by FARO is an outdoor lamp designed to illuminate paths, gardens and parks with warm, uniform light. It is installed directly in the ground and offers 360-degree light distribution, making it especially useful when you want to illuminate in all directions without dark areas.

The body is made of aluminium combined with transparent polycarbonate. Both materials withstand outdoor conditions well: rain, humidity, dust. The IP65 protection ensures that neither water nor solid bodies compromise the lamp's operation. The IK10 resistance adds another level of safety against knocks or physical impacts.

The colour temperature is 3000K, a warm tone that is not harsh in open-air spaces. This type of lighting creates a calm atmosphere when night falls, without the coldness of white lights.

FARO is a company with a long track record in the lighting sector, with an extensive collection of products for indoor and outdoor use. The SCREEN line is part of their technical catalogue, where functional design and durability are the main criteria.

Installation and specifications

For installation, it is necessary to prepare a firm base in the ground where the beacon will be fixed. As it is an outdoor luminaire connected to the mains at 220V–240V, it is recommended that the wiring work be carried out by a qualified electrician. You must ensure that the connection is protected against moisture before putting the lamp into operation. The DALI version of this beacon allows integration into lighting control systems compatible with that protocol.

For maintenance, simply clean the exterior of the lamp with a soft, slightly damp cloth. The use of abrasive products or solvents that could damage the aluminium surface or the polycarbonate is not recommended. Periodically checking that the seal remains in good condition helps to maintain the IP65 protection over time.

Design and use

The SCREEN beacon has a height of 800 mm, which places it at a sufficient distance from the ground to project light sideways without being bothersome to the eye. Its square section of 160 mm gives it a clean, discreet profile that does not draw excessive attention during the day, but serves its purpose well when the lighting comes on at night.

The dark grey finish of the body allows the lamp to blend easily into natural surroundings, stone pavements, gravel paths or lawn edges. It is not a luminaire that aims to stand out visually, but rather to accompany the space without interfering with it. In that sense, it works well both in private gardens and in communal areas of residential developments or publicly accessible parks.

The 360-degree light distribution is one of the most practical features of this version. When placed in the centre of a path or at an open point in the garden, the illumination spreads symmetrically in all directions. This makes it possible to reduce the number of beacons needed to cover a given area, which simplifies both the installation and the overall visual appearance of the space.

The lantern uses COB LED technology, which concentrates several light points on a compact surface and produces a homogeneous beam. At 3000K, the light it emits is reminiscent of traditional warm lights, without the intense yellow tint of incandescent bulbs. It is a colour temperature that promotes a sense of calm and fits well in spaces where a pleasant atmosphere is desired after sunset.

The transparent polycarbonate diffuser allows light to pass through with little loss, maintaining the efficiency of the system. At the same time, the IK10 resistance of the unit ensures that both the body and the diffuser can withstand impacts without breaking, which is relevant in high-traffic areas or in gardens with children.

This beacon can be complemented with other lights from the SCREEN collection to create continuous lines of illumination along paths or perimeters. It also combines well with wall luminaires or with adjustable ground spotlights if you want to add focused lighting on garden features such as trees or walls. The dark grey finish facilitates coexistence with other materials: wood, stone, concrete or metal.

Compatibility with the DALI protocol opens up the possibility of integrating this lamp into outdoor lighting management systems, allowing intensity adjustment or scheduling of switching times without manual intervention. It is a practical option for installations where a certain level of automation is desired without resorting to more complex solutions.

Questions and answers

Does the SCREEN beacon require special maintenance thanks to its IP65 protection?

The IP65 protection prevents rain or dust from affecting the interior of the lamp, but it is advisable to check from time to time that the outer seal is in good condition. Cleaning is done with a damp cloth, without products that could damage the aluminium or the polycarbonate.

What advantage does the 360-degree version offer compared to other outdoor beacon options?

The symmetric 360-degree distribution allows illumination in all directions from a single installation point, with no dark areas on any side. This is especially useful at path intersections or in open areas of the garden where you do not want to rely on multiple lights to cover the area.

Is the included COB LED lamp compatible with DALI dimming systems?

Yes, this version of the SCREEN beacon is ready to integrate with DALI control systems, allowing the intensity of the lights to be adjusted and their operation to be scheduled from a compatible central system.
