Overview

The LOTUS beacon by FARO is an outdoor lamp designed to illuminate paths, entrances, and walkways in gardens, patios, and open-air spaces. Its shape is inspired by lotus leaves, making it not only a functional element but also a decorative lantern that fits well in contemporary environments.

If you are looking for garden lighting that combines visual presence with resistance to outdoor conditions, this beacon meets that need well. The design is by Estudi Ribaudí, and the collection has received the iF Design Award, an international recognition in design and innovation.

FARO is a brand with a long track record in indoor and outdoor lighting. Their products are commonly found in residential projects where detail matters as much as functionality.

Installation and specifications

For installation, this lamp is fixed directly to the ground. Before placing it, verify that the surface is firm and stable. It is recommended that the electrical connection be carried out by a qualified electrician, as this is an outdoor luminaire connected to the mains. Check that the wiring is suitable for outdoor use and is properly protected against moisture. Do not install the beacon in areas where it may become submerged in water.

For maintenance, clean the surface with a damp cloth and a mild detergent. Avoid abrasive products or solvents that may damage the dark grey finish or the opal diffuser. Periodically check the condition of the anchors and seals to ensure that the IP65 protection remains in good condition.

Design and use

The LOTUS collection is born from a specific idea: to translate the organic shape of lotus leaves into an outdoor lamp that works both by day and by night. During the day, its dark grey aluminium silhouette blends into the surroundings without drawing too much attention. When night falls, the opal diffuser distributes light softly and evenly, without creating bright spots or harsh shadows.

The aluminium body provides solidity without adding excessive weight. At 1.7 kg, it is a manageable beacon during installation, yet robust enough to hold up well outdoors. Aluminium withstands temperature changes well and does not deteriorate with continued exposure to the outdoor environment. The opal polycarbonate diffuser completes the ensemble: it is a material resistant to impact and the passage of time, which also filters light to create warm and pleasant illumination at 3000K.

This beacon works as a path lantern in contemporary-style gardens, although it also fits in more neutral or mixed environments. Placed along a walkway, it marks the route without the need to install overhead lights. It can also be used in walkway areas next to a terrace, at the entrance of a home, or around a swimming pool, provided that adequate cable protection is ensured. The IP65 rating protects it against dust and water jets, making it suitable for most common weather conditions.

The colour temperature of 3000K produces warm light, closer to the tone of a candle than to the coldness of white light. That detail matters outdoors, where lighting contributes to the overall atmosphere of the space. In a well-designed garden, ground-level or beacon lights create a sense of depth and order that cannot be achieved with an elevated lantern.

The fact that the LED light source is included simplifies setup. There is no need to search for compatible bulbs or worry about adapters. The lamp arrives ready to connect and use. With a maximum power of 18W, it provides sufficient illumination for walkway areas without being excessive for a residential environment.

The design by Estudi Ribaudí is not a minor detail. The lotus-inspired shape gives this beacon its own identity that goes beyond the merely functional. In a garden, it acts as a decorative element that complements plants, paving, and outdoor furniture. It is not a generic lamp: it has a recognisable shape that adds character to the space where it is installed.

If you are planning the lighting for an entrance or a garden and are looking for something that does not appear industrial or overly ornate, the LOTUS strikes an interesting balance. The dark grey body combines well with materials such as stone, concrete, or wood treated for outdoor use. It also works alongside dark-leaved vegetation, where the contrast helps highlight the shape of the beacon during the day.

Questions and answers

Does the LOTUS beacon include the LED light source or does it need to be purchased separately?

The SMD LED light source is included. The lamp arrives ready to install and connect without the need to purchase any additional components.

What does IP65 mean and under what conditions can this lamp be installed?

The IP65 rating indicates that the beacon is fully protected against dust and against water jets from any direction. It is suitable for outdoor use exposed to rain, although it should not be installed in areas where it may become submerged in water.

Can the opal polycarbonate diffuser be cleaned without damaging it?

Yes. A damp cloth and a mild detergent are sufficient. Abrasive products or solvents should be avoided, as they can affect the surface of the diffuser and reduce its ability to distribute light evenly.
