Overview

GLINT is a ground beacon manufactured by Faro Lab, designed for outdoor spaces where lighting serves both a practical and decorative function. It is installed directly in the ground and emits light in two directions, allowing for interesting visual effects on facades, pathways, or garden areas.

This outdoor lamp combines a cement body with a glass diffuser. The result is a piece with its own physical presence, which does not go unnoticed even when switched off. The warm 2700K light it projects creates a calm atmosphere, without being harsh or excessively intense.

Faro is a Spanish brand with decades of experience in lighting design. Their outdoor products are designed to withstand typical open-air conditions and maintain a consistent aesthetic across different types of environments. GLINT is a good example of that approach: functional, with its own character, without unnecessary embellishments.

Installation and specifications

Installing this beacon requires a fixed electrical connection, so it is recommended to hire an electrician before fitting it. As it is an outdoor floor luminaire, it is important that the connection point is protected and suitable for outdoor use. The body weight is considerable — over 18 kg — so a firm base should be prepared to ensure stability. If the ground is soft or uneven, it may be necessary to level the installation area before placing the lamp.

The cement body requires no frequent maintenance, but it should be cleaned occasionally with a damp cloth to remove dust or surface dirt. It is not recommended to use abrasive products or harsh chemicals on the surface. The glass diffuser can be cleaned with water and a soft cloth. Avoid direct impacts on the glass. If the lamp is to be exposed to extreme weather conditions for prolonged periods, check the condition of the body at the start of each season.

Design and use

GLINT is a floor lamp with a cement body that belongs to Faro Lab's outdoor luminaire range. Its height of 700 mm gives it a clear vertical presence without being intrusive. The 200 x 100 mm section maintains a compact proportion that fits well in spaces of different sizes, from a large garden to a smaller terrace.

The body material is one of the defining elements of this beacon. Cement has a texture and weight that convey solidity. It is not a lightweight or temporary lamp: it gives the impression of being made to stay. The grey tone of the finish integrates naturally into environments featuring stone, concrete, dark wood, or vegetation. It also works well alongside more contemporary design elements, where the austerity of materials forms part of the aesthetic concept of the space.

The light emission is bidirectional. This means the lamp illuminates in two directions simultaneously, multiplying its effect on the surroundings without the need to install multiple lights. On a garden path, for example, a single beacon can illuminate a considerable stretch on both sides of the walkway. In an outdoor rest area, that same effect creates a diffuse, enveloping light that does not produce harsh shadows or areas of excessive contrast.

The color temperature of 2700K corresponds to a warm light, similar to that of a traditional incandescent bulb. This type of lighting favors relaxed atmospheres and is especially pleasant at night, when the outdoor environment is perceived differently. It is not a light designed for working or for functional, direct illumination, but rather for creating an atmosphere and highlighting the volumes and textures of the space.

The included SMD LED system has a power output of 6.5 W, making it an efficient option for continuous use during nighttime hours. The wide voltage compatibility, between 100V and 277V, allows it to be installed in different electrical configurations without adapters.

This lamp works well in private gardens, but can also be integrated into larger spaces such as building courtyards, home entrances, paved walkways, or the edges of garden areas. In environments with traditional lanterns, the GLINT can act as a ground-level complement, adding a lower layer of lighting that contrasts interestingly with elevated lights. In more contemporary design spaces, it can be used as a central element of the outdoor lighting composition.

The absence of superfluous decorative elements means this beacon adapts to very different contexts. It does not compete visually with the surroundings, but integrates into them. During the day, the cement body acts as a discreet sculptural element. At night, the light it emits transforms the perception of the surrounding space.

Questions and answers

Does the GLINT beacon include the LED light source, or does it need to be purchased separately?

The SMD LED light source is included. It does not need to be purchased separately, nor is any additional installation of the light module required.

What type of base does this lamp need given its weight of 18 kg?

Given the considerable weight of the cement body, a level and firm base is recommended. On soft or sloping ground, a stable surface should be prepared before placing the beacon to prevent it from shifting or tilting over time.

Is the 2700K color temperature suitable for illuminating an access path, or is it only for decoration?

The warm 2700K light serves both functions. It visually marks the route of a garden path thanks to the bidirectional emission, while at the same time creating a pleasant atmosphere. It is not a high-intensity illumination, but it is sufficient to navigate and clearly define outdoor areas.
