Overview

The COSTAS lamp by FARO is a surface luminaire designed to be mounted directly on the wall. The wall light comes in two sizes; this version has a diameter of 60 cm and a height of 14 cm, giving it presence without taking up too much space. The rattan shade allows light to pass through in a diffuse way while keeping the bulb visible, creating that decorative effect so characteristic of Mediterranean and classic design at the same time.

This wall light works well in all types of interior spaces: living room, dining room, bedroom, hallway or bathroom. It is also designed for contract projects, where visual consistency between multiple units is needed. One of the distinctive features of the COSTAS collection is that it allows you to create compositions by grouping several lamps on the ceiling or wall, forming islands of light that structure the space without the need for other elements.

FARO is a Spanish brand with years of experience in indoor and outdoor lighting. Its collections combine functionality with a refined style, and are present in both private homes and professional spaces.

Installation and specifications

To install this wall light, you need a recessed connection box or a suitable surface to anchor the bracket. Since the mounting is on the wall, it is recommended to locate the anchor points on solid material. The wiring must be properly insulated before connecting the luminaire. It is recommended that installation be carried out by a qualified electrician, especially if there is no existing box at the desired point. The lamp does not include a bulb, so it must be purchased separately; FARO recommends using the decorative bulb with reference 17072E to achieve the appropriate visual result.

To keep the wall light in good condition, clean the rattan shade with a dry or slightly damp cloth. Avoid the use of harsh or abrasive chemical products, as they can damage both the rattan and the matte black finish of the aluminium body. Before any cleaning or maintenance task, always disconnect the lamp from the power supply.

Design and use

The COSTAS collection was born from the work of designers Alex and Manel Lluscà, with a clear starting point: to bring natural materials back into modern lighting. The rattan shade is not just an aesthetic element; it also defines the way light is distributed in the environment. By letting light pass through its fibres, it creates soft patterns on the wall and ceiling, without glare and without generating harsh shadows.

The body of the wall light is made of aluminium with a matte black finish, a lightweight yet resistant material that contrasts well with the organic texture of the rattan. This contrast between the industrial nature of the metal and the natural quality of the shade is what gives the piece its character. The matte black finish, moreover, does not accumulate reflections and integrates easily into walls of different colours.

In the living room, this wall light can be used as the main light source when combined with several units on the same wall, or as a complement to another central lighting source. In the dining room, one or two units at the appropriate height create a warm atmosphere without being excessive. In the bedroom, the wall light is a practical solution that frees bedside tables from table lamps, keeping the light close without taking up surface space.

In the bathroom, its surface design makes it a coherent option for spaces where it is not always easy to install recessed light points. In hallways, where lighting tends to be functional and understated, this wall light adds a visual element that transforms the space without overcrowding it.

The contract setting is another scenario for which COSTAS was designed. In hotels, restaurants or shared-use spaces, repeating the same wall light along a wall or at different points creates an orderly visual reading. The lamp works as a design piece without imposing a specific style, making it compatible with rustic, Nordic, Mediterranean or contemporary environments.

The possibility of creating islands on the wall or ceiling by grouping several units is one of the most interesting features of the collection. It is not common to find wall lights that are explicitly designed to work together, and that gives a great deal of freedom when planning the lighting of a space.

The room or space in which this wall light is installed gains in visual coherence when the chosen bulb has a warm colour temperature, something that the rattan naturally complements. FARO specifically recommends the decorative bulb 17072E, which keeps the light source visible and turns that detail into part of the whole.

Questions and answers

Is the rattan shade resistant to use in bathrooms with humidity?

The wall light is designed for indoor use. In bathrooms, it is advisable to install it in areas away from the shower or bathtub, where direct exposure to steam is minimal, in order to preserve the integrity of the rattan in the long term.

Can this wall light also be installed on the ceiling?

The mounting is designed for walls. However, the COSTAS collection allows you to create compositions on both walls and ceilings by combining several units. If the intended use is on the ceiling, consult an installer to verify that the anchoring is appropriate.

What type of E27 LED bulb is compatible with this wall light?

The lamp accepts E27 LED bulbs of up to 15 W. FARO recommends the decorative bulb with reference 17072E, which keeps the bulb visible and complements the style of the rattan shade.
