Overview

The SUMBA wall light by FARO is an indoor lamp that combines a matte black steel structure with a rattan shade. The result is a piece that adds warmth without overloading the space. It works well in bedrooms, living rooms, hallways and rest areas where a soft ambient light is desired.

The rattan shade filters light naturally, projecting a gentle shadow pattern on the wall. That organic texture turns the lamp into a decorative element even when switched off. The matte black finish of the body provides contrast without drawing too much attention.

FARO is a Spanish brand with years of experience in indoor and outdoor lighting. The SUMBA collection was developed by Faro Lab, its design division, with rattan as the main material. It is an option that frequently appears in hospitality projects thanks to its neutral and adaptable character.

Installation and specifications

For installation, the wall light is fixed directly to the wall using anchors appropriate for the surface type. It is recommended that the electrical connection be carried out by a qualified electrician, especially when working with recessed installations. Before starting, make sure to cut the power at the electrical panel. The working voltage is 100V to 240V, making it compatible with the standard electrical grid. The E27 LED bulb is not included and must be purchased separately, respecting the maximum power of 15 W.

The rattan shade does not require chemical products for cleaning. A dry or slightly damp cloth is sufficient to remove accumulated dust. The matte black steel body can be cleaned with a soft cloth. Avoid using scourers or abrasive products that may damage the finish. This lamp is designed for indoor use and should not be installed in areas with high humidity without consulting the manufacturer's specifications.

Design and use

The SUMBA wall light has a cubic shape of 210 mm in all its dimensions, giving it a balanced volume without being excessive. Its matte black steel structure acts as a firm base on which the rattan shade rests, the element that visually defines the entire piece. The rattan, crafted into a spherical or semi-spherical shade, allows light to filter through in a diffuse manner and creates that more intimate atmosphere sought in certain spaces.

This wall light fits well in a bedroom positioned at bedside table height, illuminating with a warm, glare-free light. In a living room it can be placed on the wall opposite the sofa to generate a secondary light point that complements the main lighting. It also works in hallways where continuous light is needed but without excessive intensity.

The combination of rattan and matte black is versatile. It adapts to Nordic-style interiors, where natural textures and neutral colours predominate. It also finds its place in more eclectic settings or in design proposals that mix organic materials with industrial finishes. The contrast between the natural material of the shade and the metal body is one of the strengths of this lamp.

In hospitality projects, the SUMBA wall light is commonly used at bed headboards, reading areas or hotel corridors. Its restrained design allows it to be repeated throughout a space without becoming monotonous. The collection includes variants that can be combined with each other to create a coherent lighting proposal.

For a dining room, this type of wall light can be used as supporting light when the main lighting hangs from the ceiling. In a kitchen it can be placed in transition areas or on walls that do not receive direct light. In both cases, the lamp is not intended to be the main light source, but an element that completes and softens the overall scheme.

The matte black finish does not accumulate fingerprints easily and maintains a clean appearance with little maintenance. The rattan shade, being a natural material, may vary slightly from piece to piece, giving it a handcrafted character within a design production.

In a large bathroom, the wall light can be installed on either side of the mirror as a complementary light point. In long hallways, repeating several wall lights at regular intervals creates a uniform light sequence. In a guest room or a young person's bedroom, the rattan adds a warm texture that softens the coldness of other materials.

Questions and answers

Does the rattan shade of the SUMBA wall light affect the amount of light the lamp emits?

Yes, the rattan shade filters part of the light emitted by the bulb. The result is a diffuse, ambient illumination, not a high-performance direct light. This is a characteristic of the design, intended to create a warm atmosphere.

Is this wall light compatible with bulbs of more than 15 W?

No. The maximum permitted power is 15 W. Exceeding that limit may damage the wall light or create hazards. It is recommended to use an E27 LED bulb that does not exceed that power.

Can the matte black steel body be installed in bathrooms with frequent steam or humidity?

This wall light is designed for general indoor use. If you wish to install it in a bathroom with high levels of humidity or steam, it is advisable to first consult the manufacturer's technical specifications to confirm its compatibility with that environment.
