Design and use

Shan is a lamp that starts from a very specific idea: three shades, a single object, a complete atmosphere. The number three is not arbitrary — it is the literal meaning of its name in Japanese — and it defines the entire geometry of the piece. Each shade is handmade in parchment by local artisans, which means that no two units are exactly alike. There are small variations inherent to the artisanal process that form part of the lamp's character.

The parchment filters light in a soft and even way. When the lamp is switched on, the shades illuminate from within with a warm tone reminiscent of natural sunset light. There is no glare, no areas of harsh shadow. The light is distributed in an enveloping manner, and this changes the perception of the space where it is placed.

Questions and answers

Are the three parchment shades permanently attached or can they be removed for cleaning?

The shades are part of the lamp's structure and are not designed to be dismantled. To clean them, it is recommended to use a dry or slightly damp cloth directly on the surface of the parchment, with the lamp unplugged.

Is the E27 socket compatible with dimmable LED bulbs?

The E27 socket accepts standard LED bulbs of up to 15 W. Compatibility with dimmable bulbs depends on the dimmer used in the installation; it is advisable to verify this with the bulb manufacturer before purchasing, as Shan does not include its own dimming system.

Is it possible to use Shan on a standard bedside table given its 600 mm diameter?

At 600 mm in diameter, the lamp takes up considerable space. It works well on larger-format bedside tables or on auxiliary surfaces with sufficient depth. On very small bedside tables it may be a tight fit, so it is recommended to measure the available space before placing it.
