Overview

The LAO lamp by FARO is a table lamp designed for those who want to add a specific light source without altering the balance of a space. Its minimalist lines fit well in a bedroom, on a bedside table, on a desk, or in any corner where close-up light is needed without installing anything on the ceiling or wall.

The body in aluminum and ABS with a matte black finish gives it a discreet presence. It doesn't draw excessive attention, but it doesn't disappear either. The opal diffusion distributes the 3000K light evenly, without harsh shadows or annoying glare. With 4W of integrated SMD LED, it consumes little energy and provides warm light that works well for both work and rest.

FARO is a Spanish company with decades of experience in lighting. The LAO collection was designed by the Nahtrang studio with the goal of creating pieces that work in different home contexts without imposing a particular style.

Installation and specifications

Being a table lamp, it does not require fixed electrical installation or any work on walls or ceilings. Simply place it on the desired surface — a bedside table, a desk, a console — and plug it in. Before use, make sure the cable is not taut and does not run through areas where it could become damaged. Ensure that the surface it rests on is stable and that the lamp base has enough space without risk of falling.

To clean the body, use a dry or slightly damp cloth. Avoid abrasive products or solvents that could damage the matte black finish of the aluminum or ABS. The PMMA diffuser is cleaned in the same way: without excessive pressure and without harsh chemicals. Do not handle the lamp with wet hands or clean it while it is plugged in.

Design and use

The LAO collection was born from a specific need: to create a table lamp that provides functional light without taking up too much visual or physical space. The result is a vertically formatted piece, 430 mm tall with a compact base of 160 mm depth, which adapts well to both small surfaces and large desks.

The body combines aluminum and ABS, two materials that complement each other well: aluminum provides rigidity and a solid feel, while ABS allows for more precise shapes in the details. The matte black finish avoids reflections and ages well with use. It is not a flashy or ornate lamp, but its formal coherence makes it work in many contexts. Those looking for a modern lamp without superfluous decorative elements often find in this type of design exactly what they need.

The PMMA diffuser with an opal finish is one of the key elements of the piece. It filters the LED light so that the distribution is uniform across the illuminated area. This is especially useful on a desk, where direct light can be uncomfortable during hours of work. It also works well as a bedside lamp: the warm 3000K light creates a calm atmosphere without being too dim.

In a living room, a lamp with these characteristics can be used on a side console or in a corner where the ceiling has no light points. In a small dining room, it can complement the central lighting without any renovation work. In a bedroom, placed on the bedside table, it provides just the right amount of light for reading without disturbing whoever is beside you. On a home desk, it offers a close, glare-free light source.

The LAO lamp accepts voltage between 100V and 240V, making it compatible with electrical installations in different countries without the need for an adapter. The SMD LED is integrated and included, so there is nothing additional to purchase before using it.

Due to its size and weight — just over one kilogram — it is easy to move from one space to another as needed. In a guest room that also serves as a study, it can move from the bedside table to the desk without any hassle. It is not a rechargeable or wireless lamp, but its cable allows it to be positioned with considerable freedom as long as there is a nearby outlet.

Nahtrang's design for this collection avoids unnecessary decorative elements. There are no gold details, ceramics, glass, or any material that might be difficult to integrate. This means the lamp coexists well with furniture of different styles, from the most understated to those with more character.

Questions and answers

Can the LED in the LAO lamp be replaced if it fails?

The SMD LED light source is integrated into the luminaire and is included from the factory. It is not designed to be independently replaced by the user. In the event of a malfunction, contact us to find the most appropriate solution.

Is the 3000K color temperature suitable for reading or working?

3000K corresponds to warm white light, similar to that of a traditional incandescent bulb. It is comfortable for reading, for working at low intensity, and for relaxing environments. If you are looking for a cooler, more neutral light for high-concentration tasks, this temperature may feel somewhat softer than you are used to.

How much space does the lamp base take up on the bedside table or desk?

The base measures 80 mm in length by 160 mm in depth, which is approximately the size of a sheet of paper folded in half. It has quite a small footprint, compatible with narrow bedside tables or desks with limited free space.
