Overview

HYDE is a recessed ceiling lamp by FARO, designed for those looking for clean and discreet lighting at home. Its square shape and matte black finish allow it to blend into the ceiling without drawing attention, simply doing its job. It is a lamp that takes up no visual space, does not distract, and does not compete with the rest of the interior.

This type of lamp works well in kitchens, hallways, bathrooms, or any space where keeping the ceiling uncluttered is preferred. Thanks to its IP44 protection, it can also be installed in areas with humidity or splashing, which broadens its range of use within the home.

FARO is a Spanish brand with decades of experience in home lighting. Its products combine solid materials with functional design, and are intended for both renovation projects and small home updates.

Installation and specifications

Before installing the lamp, check that the ceiling cutout has the right dimensions to accommodate the recessed body. The required installation depth is 89 mm, so it is important to have sufficient space in the false ceiling or the structure where it will be mounted. The electrical connection must be carried out by a qualified electrician. Make sure the installation complies with current local regulations and that the circuit is de-energized before starting work. The GU10 LED bulb is not included, so you will need to purchase it separately before commissioning.

To clean the luminaire, use a dry or slightly damp cloth. Avoid abrasive products or solvents that could damage the matte black finish of the steel body. Do not handle the lamp with the circuit energized. If you need to replace the GU10 bulb, wait for it to cool completely before touching it.

Design and use

The HYDE lamp by FARO is a recessed ceiling light with a modern and understated design. Its square body made of steel with a matte black finish gives it a solid yet sober appearance. It is not a lamp that imposes its presence: it is installed in the ceiling and becomes part of the space without creating visual noise. That is precisely what many people look for when updating their home lighting.

Recessed lights of this type have a clear advantage in spaces with low ceilings, where a pendant lamp has no place. The square format of HYDE also sets it apart from the more common round recessed lights, giving it a somewhat more defined character within the modern design category. The matte black finish is compatible with interiors in neutral tones, dark woods, concrete surfaces, or the black-and-white combinations very common in contemporary kitchens and bathrooms.

In the kitchen, this type of lamp works well above countertops or islands, where directed and consistent light is needed. It is also a practical option for the dining room, especially if several units are installed forming a line or a grid on the ceiling. In the bedroom, a recessed light of these characteristics allows you to do without bedside lamps or wall lights, freeing up surface space. In smaller bedrooms, this can make a real difference in the sense of spaciousness.

The IP44 protection allows this lamp to be installed in wet areas, such as the bathroom, always respecting the safety zones established by electrical regulations. This makes it a more versatile recessed light than models without protection, and explains why it can appear in both dry spaces and environments with steam or splashing.

Recessed ceiling lights with a black finish have become common in interiors with an industrial, Scandinavian, or minimalist style. HYDE fits well within those trends without forcing the result. If the rest of the space features black fittings, dark window frames, or furniture with metal profiles, the lamp integrates naturally. If the environment is more neutral, the matte black acts as a subtle contrast point without being excessive.

The low weight of 0.15 kg makes it easy to handle during installation. The steel body ensures a stable and durable construction. Compatibility with voltages between 100V and 240V allows this lamp to be used in different countries without the need for additional adapters. With a GU10 LED bulb of up to 8 W, consumption remains low and the light can be adjusted according to the type of bulb chosen.
