Overview

SAMBA is a pendant lamp from the collection of the same name, designed by Faro Lab for interior lighting. It works well in bedrooms, living rooms and dining rooms, and also fits into hospitality projects where an environment with its own character is sought. The combination of matte black and yellow gives it a clear visual presence without feeling overdone.

This option comes with a plug and five metres of cable, meaning it does not require a fixed electrical installation. The hook is already included. It is a practical solution for those who want to change the light point without any construction work or ceiling intervention.

FARO is a Spanish brand with years of experience in lighting. Its Faro Lab line is focused on designs with personality, intended for both residential use and hospitality and commercial environments.

Installation and specifications

For installation, this pendant lamp does not require a direct connection to the ceiling wiring. It connects via a standard plug to any conventional socket. The included hook is fixed to the ceiling to hold the cable and keep the lamp in the desired position. Before placing the hook, check that the ceiling surface can support the weight of the whole unit. The cable is five metres long, which allows room to adjust the height according to the space. Make sure the nearest socket is at a point that is out of sight or can be neatly concealed.

For daily use, clean the papyrus shade with a dry or slightly damp cloth, without abrasive products or solvents. The matte black steel body can be cleaned in the same way. Do not use the lamp in environments with high humidity, such as the bathroom, unless the product has the corresponding IP certification for that use. Always use an LED bulb with an E27 base and a maximum power of 15 W.

Design and use

The SAMBA lamp has an oval shape that is immediately recognisable. The 500 mm diameter gives it volume without dominating the space. In a medium-sized dining room, it sits centred above the table and distributes light evenly downwards. In a living room, it can work as a focal point if the rest of the furniture is more neutral.

The shade is made from papyrus, a material that filters light softly and creates a warm atmosphere without exposing the bulb to view. The white finish of the diffuser reinforces this effect: the light that comes out is diffuse, with no areas of hard shadow. In a bedroom, this translates into lighting that does not strain the eyes or create sharp contrasts.

The body is steel with a matte black finish. This type of finish does not reflect light or accumulate glare, giving it a more understated and lasting appearance over time. The yellow strip that surrounds the shade provides the only touch of colour on the piece. It is not an intense or striking yellow, but a detail that sets the lamp apart from other more neutral options without breaking the overall look.

The SAMBA collection is also designed for hospitality environments: restaurants, cafés, coworking spaces or small hotels. In those contexts, an oval pendant lamp with this type of finish works well above individual tables or in rows above elongated bars. The five-metre cable allows room to adapt to different ceiling heights, which is useful in venues with unconventional structures.

At home, the plug-in option has a practical advantage: you can move it if you change the layout of the space. It is not permanently fixed. This makes it especially convenient for those who rent and cannot make structural modifications, or for those who simply prefer to have that flexibility.

The oval design of the shade also works in kitchens with medium-height ceilings, where a larger lamp might feel excessive. In a bright kitchen with white furniture or light wood, the matte black of the body adds contrast without clashing. In a darker or industrial-style kitchen, the yellow of the strip acts as a warm accent.

As for the bulb, the base is E27 and the maximum power is 15 W. It is not included, so it must be purchased separately. A warm white E27 LED (2700 K or 3000 K) is the most common choice for this type of papyrus shade, as it enhances the soft tone that the material provides. With a cool white LED the result is more functional, but it loses some of the atmosphere that characterises this lamp.

The weight of the unit is 1.67 kg, a reasonable value for a luminaire of these dimensions. No special anchor is required, but it is worth verifying that the hook support in the ceiling is secure.

Questions and answers

Can the five-metre cable be shortened or does it have a fixed length?

The cable comes with a fixed length of five metres. If you need to adjust the height of the lamp, you can gather the excess cable at the hook fixing point, but it is not designed to be cut without modifying the product.

Does the papyrus shade withstand the heat from the bulb well?

Papyrus is a material that can handle without issue the heat generated by an LED bulb of up to 15 W, which is the maximum recommended power. Do not use bulbs of higher wattage or of another type that generate more heat.

Is this oval lamp suitable for installation in the bathroom?

No. This pendant lamp does not have IP certification for humid environments, so it is not suitable for use in the bathroom or in areas with high humidity.
