Overview

The SAMBA lamp by FARO is a suspension luminaire designed for residential interiors and hospitality spaces. This version features a multiple canopy with 7 lights, making it a particularly suitable option for large rooms where a balanced light distribution is needed. The combination of a matte black metal structure and papyrus shades in a beige tone results in an ensemble that fits both contemporary interiors and warmer, more natural environments.

The SAMBA collection was developed by Faro Lab, the in-house design team of the Spanish brand FARO. The company has been working for decades on lighting solutions for the home and interior design projects, with a clear focus on the relationship between aesthetics and functionality. This pendant lamp is a good example of that balance: a design that does not seek excessive prominence, but visually transforms any space where it is installed.

Installation and specifications

For the installation of this pendant lamp on the ceiling, it is recommended to have an existing ceiling light point with a rose or junction box. The cable has a maximum length of 5000 mm, so it can be adjusted to the desired height according to the proportions of the space. It is advised that installation be carried out by a qualified electrician. Before starting, make sure the power is switched off at the electrical panel.

To clean the papyrus shades, use a dry or slightly damp cloth. Avoid products containing solvents or abrasives. The matte black steel body can be cleaned with a soft cloth to remove dust. Do not expose the lamp to direct humidity or install it in spaces such as the bathroom without first verifying whether the product has an appropriate IP certification for that environment. Replace bulbs only when the product is disconnected from the power supply.

Design and use

The SAMBA lamp in its 7-light version has a clear visual presence without being overly ornate. The seven individual shades, each with its own E27 LED bulb, are distributed from a central canopy suspended from the ceiling, creating a composition that vaguely resembles a constellation or a stylized bouquet. This arrangement allows the light to spread widely, which is especially useful in large spaces.

The lamp body is made of steel with a matte black finish. This type of finish does not reflect light aggressively and maintains a clean appearance over time, as it conceals fingerprints and surface dust better than glossy finishes. The matte black also acts as a neutral frame that allows the papyrus shades to take center stage visually.

The shades are made of papyrus with a white finish. Papyrus, as a material, provides an organic and slightly irregular texture that naturally contrasts with the precision of metal. When the lamp is switched on, the light passes through the papyrus in a diffused manner, creating a warm atmosphere without harsh shadows. This quality makes the lamp particularly suitable for spaces where a relaxed ambiance is sought, such as a living room, bedroom, or dining room.

In a dining room, a pendant lamp of these characteristics can be installed above the main table, at a sufficient height to illuminate without dazzling the people seated. The overall size of the ensemble, with 500 mm in length and 500 mm in depth, covers a standard-sized rectangular or round table well. In a living room, it can function as a central light point without needing to be supplemented with other sources if the space is not excessively large.

The bedroom is another environment where this lamp fits effortlessly. The diffused light from the papyrus avoids harsh contrasts and creates a sense of calm. The adjustable cable height, which can reach up to 5000 mm, allows it to adapt to both low ceilings and rooms with generous ceiling height.

The 7-light version is also a solid option for hospitality projects, such as restaurants, hotel receptions, or coworking spaces with a refined aesthetic. In those contexts, the lamp provides warmth without being excessively domestic, and its scale makes it visible without becoming a loud decorative element. The combination of matte black and beige is also highly compatible with neutral color palettes, light wood furniture, or concrete surfaces, which broadens its integration possibilities.

From an installation standpoint, the product is compatible with voltages between 100V and 240V, making it suitable for use in different countries without additional adapters. It requires E27 LED bulbs of up to 15 W per light point, which are not included and must be purchased separately.

Questions and answers

Can the cable of this pendant lamp be shortened for standard ceiling heights?

Yes. The cable has a maximum length of 5000 mm, but it can be gathered and adjusted during installation to adapt to standard ceiling heights. It is recommended that this adjustment be carried out by an electrician.

Are the papyrus shades of this lamp resistant to the heat from LED bulbs?

E27 LED bulbs generate much less heat than incandescent ones, so they are compatible with shades made of materials such as papyrus. Even so, the 15 W per light point indicated in the specifications must not be exceeded.

Is this lamp with a 7-light canopy suitable for installation in a bathroom?

It is not recommended to install it in a bathroom without verifying its IP protection rating, as this information is not specified in the product characteristics. For humid environments, it is preferable to choose luminaires with IP44 certification or higher.
