Overview

The WINDSOR pendant lamp by Faro Barcelona is a suspension luminaire designed for spaces where ambient lighting makes a difference. Its large oval shade distributes light gently, without creating harsh contrasts or shadow areas. It works well in large dining rooms, living rooms with high ceilings, hotel receptions, or any room where a calm and enveloping atmosphere is desired.

The steel body with anodized black finish gives it solidity without adding visual weight. The natural-toned papyrus shade filters light warmly, which completely changes the perception of the space. It is not a lamp that goes unnoticed, but it does not compete with the rest of the surroundings either: it integrates naturally into modern or Nordic-style interiors.

Faro Barcelona is a company with decades of experience in luminaire design. Its catalogue combines functionality and aesthetics, and the WINDSOR collection is a good example of that: clean shapes, durable materials, and a result that is noticeable from the very first moment.

Installation and specifications

To install this pendant lamp, a ceiling light point with a recessed box and an available electrical connection are required. The hook or anchor must support the weight of the assembly, which is 1.67 kg. Before starting the installation, the power must be turned off at the electrical panel. If you have no experience with electrical installations, the safest option is to hire an electrician. The hanging height can be adjusted via the cable, so it is advisable to check the measurements before permanently fixing the lamp to the ceiling.

The papyrus shade requires delicate care. It can be cleaned with a dry or slightly damp cloth, without chemical products or solvents. The steel body accepts a soft cloth with a little moisture to remove accumulated dust. It is advisable to turn off the luminaire before any cleaning and to wait for it to cool down if it has been on. No bulb is included, so one with an E27 socket compatible with LED must be purchased, respecting the 45 W limit.

Design and use

The WINDSOR collection by Faro Barcelona is built around a clear idea: a large-format oval shade that occupies the visual centre of any space. In this version, the anodized black steel body supports a natural papyrus shade, a material that allows light to pass through in a diffuse way and creates a warm atmosphere without the need for dimmers or additional accessories. The combination of black and natural is versatile: it fits interiors with light wood, white walls, or furniture with straight lines.

With a diameter of 640 mm, this pendant lamp has enough presence to become the focal point of a room. In a dining room, installed above the table, it defines the space and visually groups the gathering area. In a living room with high ceilings, it can be used alone as a centrepiece or together with other more focused lights. It also works well in bedrooms with high ceilings, where a lamp of this size does not feel excessive and adds character without overloading the atmosphere.

The oval papyrus shade is reminiscent of Nordic or Japanese-style finishes, where natural materials coexist with clean metal structures. The natural tone of the diffuser contrasts with the black of the body without feeling forced. The light that passes through the papyrus is soft and uniform, more similar to candlelight than to a spotlight, which makes this lamp a good choice for rest areas or social spaces.

The total height of 375 mm allows it to be installed in standard ceilings without being too bulky vertically. The weight of 1.67 kg is reasonable for a luminaire of this size, and the ceiling fixing with the included system is straightforward. Compatibility with voltages from 100V to 240V makes it suitable for use in different countries without the need for adapters.

In hospitality settings, such as restaurants or hotel common areas, this suspension luminaire provides that touch of warmth that artificially lit work spaces sometimes lose. The oval shade softens the surroundings and reduces the visual harshness generated by direct lights. It can be combined with other lamps from the WINDSOR collection to create a coherent installation in larger spaces. At home, it serves the same purpose: it creates a more intimate atmosphere in the areas where people spend the most time.

Questions and answers

Does the oval papyrus shade withstand the heat generated by the bulb well?

Yes, as long as the 45 W limit indicated by the manufacturer is respected and an LED light source compatible with an E27 socket is used. LED bulbs generate much less heat than incandescent ones, so the papyrus does not deteriorate under normal usage conditions.

Can the anodized black steel body lose its finish over time?

The anodized black finish is resistant to normal wear. To keep it in good condition, simply clean it with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid abrasive products or solvents, which can affect the surface with continued use.

Is it possible to adjust the hanging height of this pendant lamp?

Yes, the height is adjusted via the suspension cable before the final installation. It is advisable to measure the distance from the ceiling to the point where you want the shade to sit before fixing the anchor, in order to achieve the visual result you are looking for.
