Overview

The SAMBA pendant lamp by FARO is a ceiling luminaire designed for interior spaces where a balance between visual presence and harmony with the surroundings is sought. This version with a multiple canopy incorporates three light points, allowing a more balanced distribution in larger rooms or in areas where a single source would not be sufficient.

The combination of a matte black structure and a beige papyrus shade creates a calm contrast, without harshness. It is a lamp that does not need to draw attention to be well integrated into the space. It works equally well in a large living room as in a dining room with a long table, where the three lights provide uniform coverage over the surface.

FARO is a Spanish manufacturer with decades of experience in lighting. The SAMBA collection was developed by Faro Lab, their in-house design team, with both residential use and hospitality projects in mind, where ambiance matters as much as functionality.

Installation and specifications

Before installing the pendant lamp, check that the ceiling point where the canopy will be fixed has sufficient strength to support the weight of the assembly. The suspension cable is long and allows you to adjust the height at which the lamp will hang from the floor, which is useful in spaces with high ceilings. Installation must be carried out by a qualified electrician. Make sure to cut the power before making any connections.

To clean the matte black steel body, use a dry or slightly damp cloth. The papyrus shade should not be wetted or cleaned with chemical products. Dust it carefully using a soft cloth or a fine-bristle brush. Do not place the lamp in areas with high humidity, such as the bathroom, unless it has an appropriate IP rating for that use.

Design and use

The SAMBA collection is based on a simple idea: a pendant lamp with its own character without imposing its presence. The result is a ceiling luminaire with a matte black lacquered steel structure from which three beige papyrus shades with a white interior finish hang. The assembly is compact in its dimensions — 500 mm in length and 500 mm in depth — but visually relevant thanks to the multiple canopy arrangement.

The papyrus shade has a soft texture reminiscent of natural fabric. When the lamp is on, the light passes through the material with a slight diffusion, creating a warm atmosphere without harsh shadows. It is not a task light, but an ambient light that changes how the space is perceived. In a dining room, this effect helps make the table the focal point of the room. In a living room, it contributes to creating differentiated zones without needing to install several independent lamps.

In bedrooms, the three-light version allows the visual intensity to be reduced without losing presence. A pendant lamp above the bed or centered on the bedroom ceiling adds structure to the space and avoids relying on bedside lamps for the main lighting. The beige tone of the papyrus harmonizes with neutral bedding, light wood, or walls in warm tones.

Although the bathroom is not the primary environment for this lamp, in large bathrooms with sufficiently high ceilings and without direct exposure to humidity, a hanging light point can work as an aesthetic complement. In any case, this is a detail worth discussing with the installer before making the decision.

The SAMBA collection is also designed for hospitality projects: restaurants, hotels, coworking spaces with rest areas, or meeting rooms with a warmer approach. In these environments, the lamp — oval in its silhouette and understated in its materials — fits well with current interior design trends, where natural materials are mixed with industrial or Nordic finishes. The black structure is compatible with kitchen or bathroom hardware in the same tone, with dark lacquered furniture, or with window frames and doors in matte black.

The use of an E27 LED bulb of up to 15 W allows for contained energy consumption. The lamp does not include the bulb, which gives the option to choose the color temperature that best suits the space: warmer light for relaxed atmospheres, or something more neutral if clarity is sought without losing visual comfort. Compatibility with voltages between 100 V and 240 V means this model can be installed without adaptations in different countries.

The suspension cable of up to 5000 mm provides ample room to work with ceilings of varying heights. In spaces with low ceilings, it is shortened to leave the lamp at the appropriate height. In high ceilings, it can be left to hang lower so that the lights are at eye level or close to the table.

Questions and answers

Does the multiple canopy on this pendant lamp allow it to be installed at a single ceiling point, or does it require several anchor points?

This lamp is installed from a single ceiling point. The multiple canopy is the decorative element from which the three arms or cables supporting each shade extend, but the ceiling fixing is a single connection point.

Does the papyrus shade affect the amount of light emitted by the lamp?

The papyrus diffuses the light rather than blocking it. The result is soft and enveloping illumination. If you need more intensity, you can choose an E27 LED bulb close to the maximum permitted 15 W.

Is this ceiling luminaire suitable for installation in the kitchen with typical cooking vapors?

The lamp does not have a specific IP rating for humid or steam-filled environments. In well-ventilated kitchens and away from the direct cooking area it can work well, but it is not recommended to install it directly above the burners or in areas with constant vapor accumulation.
