Overview

The SAIGON IN lamp by FARO is a ceiling pendant with a large-format shade made from papyrus strips. The result is a piece that draws attention without feeling overdone: the texture of the material adds visual warmth, and the rounded silhouette fits well in spaces where a balance between decorative and functional is desired.

This luminaire is suitable for residential use, whether in a living room, dining room, bedroom, or hallway. It also adapts well to hotel lobbies, where a lamp of this size can set the atmosphere without the need for other elements. The pendant is available in different finishes, allowing it to be adjusted to the style of the space.

FARO is a Spanish brand with a long history in lighting. Its products are manufactured in Europe and combine quality standards with attention to detail in design.

Installation and specifications

Before installing this ceiling lamp, check that the anchor point on the ceiling is capable of supporting the weight of the pendant. Since this is an 18 kg piece, it is recommended to use an appropriate wall plug and screw for the type of ceiling, whether concrete, drywall, or another material. Electrical installation must be carried out by a qualified electrician. Verify that the circuit supports the indicated voltage before connecting the lamp.

To keep the papyrus diffuser in good condition, clean dust with a dry cloth or a soft brush. Avoid the use of wet products or liquids on the shade, as papyrus is sensitive to moisture. The steel structure in matte black finish can be cleaned with a slightly damp cloth. Do not install this luminaire in a bathroom or kitchen, as it is not designed for environments with humidity or splashing. Keep the bulb switched off before any maintenance operation.

Design and use

The SAIGON IN pendant has generous proportions: with a diameter of 1300 mm, it occupies the space decisively. It is not a lamp that goes unnoticed, but it is not aggressive either. The oval shade, constructed from interwoven papyrus strips, creates a continuous surface that filters light gently. When the bulb is on, the material allows the glow to pass through diffusely, without creating areas of sharp contrast.

The beige tone of the papyrus works well with neutral interiors. In a living room with white or grey walls, the lamp adds texture without breaking the coherence of the whole. In a dining room, placed above the table, it defines the space and creates a visually delimited zone. The adjustable cable height allows the distance to the ceiling to be adjusted according to the height of the space and the intended function of the light.

The structure is made of steel with a matte black finish. This finish is discreet and durable, and pairs well with hardware, window frames, and other dark metal elements that are common in modern interiors. The combination of black and beige is versatile: it works in Nordic-style spaces, in environments with natural touches, or in more contemporary proposals where different materials coexist.

For the bedroom, this ceiling lamp can be an alternative to wall sconces when a central light source with character is desired. The oval shade distributes light downward and to the sides, making it possible to illuminate a medium-sized room with a single source. In a hotel room or in the lobby of a residential building, the pendant creates a focal point that visually organizes the entrance space.

The design is the work of Nahtrang, a studio recognized for proposals in which natural materials play a leading role. In SAIGON IN, the papyrus strips are not merely a decorative element: they define the shape of the shade and determine how the light behaves. This way of constructing the luminaire with the covering material itself gives it a compact and coherent appearance, without seams or added elements that break the visual reading of the whole.

The lamp is compatible with an E27 LED bulb of up to 15 W. The E27 socket is the most common on the market, making it easy to find the right bulb. With a warm-temperature LED, the light filtered through the papyrus feels welcoming. With a neutral light one, the atmosphere is clearer, which can be useful in spaces used during the day. The bulb is not included, so you can choose the one that best suits your needs.

Both in kitchens and wide hallways, the SAIGON IN pendant can function as the main lighting element if the dimensions of the space allow it. In an open-plan kitchen connected to the dining room, a single lamp of this diameter can visually cover both areas. In smaller spaces, it is worth considering whether the scale of the piece fits the volume of the available ceiling.

Questions and answers

Can the papyrus diffuser be installed in a room with humidity, such as a bathroom?

No. Papyrus is a material sensitive to moisture and is not suitable for environments such as bathrooms or kitchens with frequent steam. This lamp is designed for use in dry indoor spaces.

Does the ceiling anchor point require any special preparation given the weight of the lamp?

Yes. With a net weight of 18 kg, the anchor must be secured to a ceiling capable of supporting that load. It is recommended to verify the ceiling material and use the appropriate fixing elements before installation.

Is the oval shade of SAIGON IN solid or does it allow light to pass through the papyrus?

The shade allows light to pass through the papyrus diffusely. It is not opaque. This produces soft and uniform lighting, with no direct light points visible from the outside of the shade.
