Overview

The SAIGON IN pendant lamp by FARO is a ceiling luminaire designed for spaces where detail matters. Its shade is made of interwoven papyrus strips, giving it a compact yet textured appearance. The visual result is a lamp with its own character, without needing anything else added around it.

This pendant fits well in a living room, a large dining room, or a hotel entrance. It is not a lamp that goes unnoticed, but it is not excessive either if the right space is chosen. The matte black finish on the steel body and the beige tone of the shade form a combination that integrates easily into contemporary interiors.

FARO is a luminaire manufacturer with a track record in the residential and contract lighting sector. This particular lamp is manufactured in Europe, which is reflected in the quality of the materials and the consistency of the finish.

Installation and specifications

For the installation of this lamp on the ceiling, a firm anchor point is required, as the net weight exceeds 15 kg. It is recommended to verify the ceiling's load capacity before proceeding. As a large-format pendant, it is advisable to plan the available clearance height: with a total height of 2360 mm, the space beneath the lamp must be sufficient to avoid interfering with the movement of people. The electrical connection must be carried out by a qualified installer. The E27 LED light source is not included and must be purchased separately.

For maintenance, the papyrus shade should be cleaned with a dry cloth or a soft brush. The use of damp or liquid products on the shade must be avoided, as papyrus is sensitive to moisture. The steel body can be cleaned with a slightly damp cloth. This lamp should not be installed in areas exposed to direct steam, such as a bathroom without adequate ventilation or near kitchen hobs.

Design and use

The SAIGON IN is a large-diameter oval lamp that occupies space with presence without appearing visually heavy. The shade, constructed from papyrus strips, creates a surface with relief and texture that changes depending on the angle from which it is viewed. When switched on, the light filtered through the papyrus produces a warm, diffuse atmosphere, without areas of intense brightness or harsh shadows.

The body is made of steel in a matte black finish, which provides contrast with the beige tone of the diffuser. This combination makes the lamp work well both over light floors and in environments with dark woods or iron elements. It does not depend on a single decorative style: it can fit into an interior with Nordic touches, a more eclectic one, or spaces with references to natural design.

As a ceiling lamp for the dining room, the SAIGON IN works well at the center of the table if the table has generous dimensions. Its diameter of 1300 mm requires a large table and a space in which the lamp can stand out without being cramped. In an open-plan living room, it can become the focal point of the sitting area, especially if the rest of the furniture maintains clean lines.

In a large room or a bedroom with a high ceiling, this oval lamp provides a scale that few residential luminaires offer. It is not an option for small spaces, but in open-plan layouts or ceiling heights above 3 meters, the result is coherent and balanced.

In the context of a hotel hall or reception area, the SAIGON IN fulfills a function of both lighting and aesthetic reference. Its size makes it identifiable from a distance, and the texture of the papyrus adds a detail that is appreciated up close. The design is by Nahtrang, and it is available in different finishes depending on the project's needs.

The lamp uses an E27 LED socket, which allows the color temperature and light intensity to be chosen according to use. In a dining room or living room, a warm-toned bulb accentuates the texture of the papyrus. In more functional spaces, a neutral light temperature may be more appropriate. LED bulbs compatible with this lamp are easy to find and have a long lifespan, which reduces maintenance over time.

The oval shade of this luminaire is also its most distinctive element. The construction with strips organized in a compact manner is reminiscent of artisanal techniques, although the final result is a piece with a controlled and contemporary appearance. It does not have the rough look of untreated wicker nor the rigidity of glass: it sits at an intermediate point that feels warm without being rustic.

Questions and answers

Is a diameter of 1300 mm suitable for a standard room?

This lamp is designed for large spaces. A diameter of 1300 mm requires large rooms, open-plan layouts, or high ceilings. In a small standard room it may appear disproportionate.

Is the papyrus shade durable if installed in a kitchen?

Papyrus is a material sensitive to moisture and steam. In a well-ventilated kitchen it may work, but it is not advisable to place it directly above the cooking area or in a bathroom without air extraction.

What type of bulb is needed and where can it be found?

The lamp uses an E27 LED socket with a maximum of 15 W. The bulb is not included and must be purchased separately. It is a very common type of bulb, available at any lighting store or hardware store.
