Overview

Overview

The MAMBO lamp by FARO is a pendant ceiling luminaire designed for those looking for a light source with its own character. The 450 mm rattan shade creates a warm, diffused atmosphere without overwhelming the space. This version with a multiple canopy groups seven light points together, making it an interesting option for large rooms where a single bulb would not be sufficient.

The design combines a matte black steel structure with a woven shade, a combination that works well in both modern interiors and environments with a more artisanal touch. The pendant lamp adapts to different heights thanks to the cable with a tensioner, which allows the position to be adjusted even when the ceiling anchor point does not exactly coincide with the centre of the table or the area to be illuminated.

FARO is a brand with a track record in interior lighting. Its collections combine functionality with attention to detail in materials and finishes, catering to both domestic use and contract and hospitality projects.

Installation and specifications

Before installing the lamp, check that the ceiling point where the canopy is to be fixed can support the weight of the luminaire. Since this is a multiple canopy with seven sockets, it is recommended that installation be carried out by a qualified electrician. The cable with tensioner allows the lamp to be shifted relative to the anchor point, so you can use that margin to centre it exactly where you need it. Make sure the circuit is de-energised before connecting any cables.

To clean the rattan shade, use a dry cloth or a soft brush. Avoid direct moisture on the weave. The matte black steel structure can be cleaned with a slightly damp cloth. Do not use abrasive products or solvents. Remember that the light source is not included: install E27 LED bulbs compatible with the indicated wattage.

Design and use

The MAMBO collection was created by the Faro Lab design studio with the intention of combining natural materials and metal structures in a single object. The oval rattan shade is the central element of this pendant lamp. The weave filters the light and projects a soft pattern onto the walls and ceiling, generating the kind of atmosphere that makes a room feel more intimate without needing to change anything else.

The seven-light version has a considerable visual presence. Seen from below, the grouping of oval shades creates an organic composition, with volume and rhythm. It is not a lamp that goes unnoticed, but it does not compete with the rest of the space either: the matte black of the steel and the natural tone of the rattan are neutral colours that coexist well with almost any palette.

This ceiling lamp works particularly well above generously sized dining tables. The seven light points distribute illumination more evenly than a single shade, which is useful in spaces where people eat, work or spend time together. It also fits in a living room when the aim is to create a warm light focus in the seating area, especially if the ceiling is high enough that the pendant lamp does not hang too low.

In hospitality projects — restaurants, hotels, coworking spaces with a rest area — this type of luminaire brings a defined character without requiring major interventions. Rattan evokes an aesthetic that today coexists effortlessly with contemporary design, Nordic style or more rustic environments. It is not a strictly vintage or industrial lamp: it sits at a midpoint that makes it versatile.

The 5000 mm cable provides room to work with high ceilings and to adjust the final height of the oval shade according to use. In a dining room, it is common to leave the bottom of the lamp between 70 and 80 cm above the table. In a living room or bedroom, the height depends on the ceiling and how you want the space to feel.

The bedroom is another context where this pendant lamp can make sense, especially when used as the main light source in rooms with high ceilings or in hospitality suites. The light filtered through the rattan is more enveloping than that of a glass shade, which helps create a calmer atmosphere.

As for the kitchen, using this lamp above an island or central worktop can work if the space has an open-plan design and the surrounding materials — wood, concrete, ceramics — dialogue well with the rattan and steel. It is not an option for small or highly functional kitchens, but in a kitchen integrated with the living room it can serve as the connecting thread between both areas.

The bathroom is outside the recommended spaces for this luminaire, as it is not designed for humid environments. A lamp with adequate IP protection would be required for the bathroom.

Questions and answers

Does the cable with tensioner allow the lamp to be installed at a ceiling point that is not centred above the table?

Yes. The cable includes a tensioner precisely for that purpose: it allows the pendant lamp to be shifted relative to the ceiling anchor point, so you can centre it above the table even if the electrical point does not coincide exactly.

Is the 450 mm oval rattan shade the same on all seven arms of the lamp?

Yes. Each of the seven arms has an oval rattan shade with the same dimensions. The 450 mm measurement corresponds to each individual shade, giving the overall composition a significant visual volume.

Is this lamp compatible with standard E27 screw-cap LED bulbs?

Yes, the socket is E27 and accepts LED bulbs. The maximum power is 15 W per light point. The bulb is not included, so you will need to purchase it separately.
