Overview

The FARO DOME M is a pendant luminaire designed for spaces where light needs to do more than just illuminate. It hangs from the ceiling with a calm presence, without drawing too much attention, yet it does not go unnoticed either. Its oval shape and satin black finish give it a defined character that fits well in living rooms, dining rooms, bedrooms and kitchens with a contemporary style.

The design is by Faro Lab, FARO's in-house creative team. The concept is based on simple, clean forms, without ornaments or distracting elements. The diffuser shade distributes light evenly, and since it is compatible with a dimmable LED bulb, it allows the intensity to be adjusted according to the time of day or the atmosphere you want to create.

FARO is a Spanish brand with decades of experience in residential and contract lighting. Its products combine aesthetic judgment with durable materials, and the DOME M lamp is a good example of that approach.

Installation and specifications

Before installing the lamp, check that the anchor point on the ceiling can support the weight of the assembly. Although the pendant weighs 2 kg, it is advisable to ensure that the bracket is fixed to a solid structure, not just to the surface cladding. Cut the power before making any connections and, if you have no experience with electrical installations, call a professional. The operating voltage is 100–240 V, making it compatible with the standard electrical supply in Spain and the rest of Europe. Remember that the bulb is not included: you will need an E27 socket bulb with dimming capability if you want to take advantage of the dimmable function.

To clean the lamp, use a dry or slightly damp cloth. Avoid abrasive products or solvents that could damage the satin finish of the steel. Do not clean the luminaire with the power connected. If dust accumulates inside the diffuser, remove it carefully following the manufacturer's instructions before cleaning it separately.

Design and use

The DOME M is a ceiling pendant lamp made of steel with a satin black finish. Satin black does not reflect light aggressively, which helps the luminaire integrate into the space without creating visual distortions. Unlike glossy finishes, this type of surface maintains a clean appearance over time and is easier to keep in good condition.

The oval shape of the assembly is one of the most recognisable features of this lamp. It is neither a sphere nor a strict cylinder, but a gently rounded silhouette that recalls certain classic glass lamps without directly copying them. That reference to the past coexists with a clearly contemporary construction, without mouldings or added decorative details.

The diffuser shade serves a specific function: to prevent the bulb from being directly visible and to distribute light into the surroundings without creating points of maximum intensity. The result in the room is an enveloping illumination, without harsh shadows or very dark areas. This makes it particularly suitable for the dining room or living room, where people spend long periods of time and the quality of light affects well-being.

It also works well in the kitchen, especially above a central island or a worktop. In these types of spaces, a medium-sized oval pendant lamp — 423 mm in diameter — fits without visually dominating the overall look. The bedroom is another environment where this luminaire makes sense: the ability to dim the intensity allows you to transition from functional light during the day to softer, more restful light at night.

The steel body makes the structure resistant and stable. It is not a material that ages poorly or requires special care. In contract environments, such as small hotels, restaurants or residential-style workspaces, the combination of durability and understated design is a practical advantage.

From a decorative standpoint, the DOME M pairs well with natural wood furniture, stone surfaces and textiles in neutral tones. It also works alongside metallic elements in black or graphite, creating visual coherence without forcing any particular style. If the space already has warm lights in other areas, this pendant reinforces that atmosphere without disrupting it.

Using a dimmable E27 LED bulb is what allows you to get the most out of this lamp. Dimming the intensity is not a minor detail: it completely changes how a space is perceived throughout the day.

Questions and answers

Is a diameter of 423 mm suitable for a standard dining table?

In general, for a dining table between 90 and 120 cm wide, a diameter of 423 mm is a well-balanced proportion. The lamp covers the central area well without extending beyond the edges of the table, which is the usual expectation for this type of installation.

Is the satin black steel finish resistant to everyday wear and tear?

Steel with a satin finish is a solid material that tolerates everyday use well. It is not as sensitive to fingerprints as glossy finishes, and minor surface scuffs do not usually affect its overall appearance.

Can I use a standard non-dimmable E27 bulb if I do not need the dimming function?

Yes, the lamp accepts any E27 bulb of up to 20 W. The dimming function depends on both the bulb and the dimmer switch installed at home. If you do not need dimming, a standard E27 LED bulb works without any issues.
