Overview

The VOLTA floor lamp, by FARO, is a floor luminaire designed for residential interiors. It fits well in a spacious living room, in a bedroom where warm light is desired next to an armchair or bed, or even in an entrance hallway with enough space for a piece with a certain presence. Its classic and timeless design, developed by Estudi Ribaudí, ensures it never looks out of place as the years pass or as décor changes.

The stem of this lamp measures 1510 mm in height, placing it on a generous scale within its category. The base occupies 450 x 450 mm, a surface area that gives it stability without requiring any anchoring or fixing to the floor. Place it, plug it in, and it works. The matte white finish on the steel body allows it to integrate naturally into spaces with neutral tones without drawing attention to itself.

FARO is a company with a long track record in the design and manufacture of luminaires for the home. Its collections combine aesthetic and functional criteria, with special attention to the details of each piece.

Installation and specifications

This floor lamp requires no fixed installation or work on walls or ceilings. It rests directly on the floor and plugs into any standard power outlet. Before placing it, it is worth choosing the position carefully: near a source of natural light for daytime use, and in a corner where a floor lamp makes sense at night. The cable should be kept tidy and away from walkways to avoid tripping hazards. Since the accepted voltage ranges from 100 V to 240 V, it is compatible with the Spanish electrical grid without adapters.

For maintenance, simply clean the steel body with a dry or slightly damp cloth. Avoid abrasive products or solvents that could affect the matte white finish. Remember that the lamp does not include a bulb: you will need an E27 LED bulb with a maximum power of 15 W. Before changing the bulb, always disconnect the lamp from the power supply.

Design and use

The VOLTA collection was born with a clear idea: to offer interior luminaires that do not depend on passing trends. The result is a floor lamp with classic lines that work equally well in a traditionally styled living room as in a room with a more contemporary approach. There is nothing superfluous or missing in its silhouette.

The body is made of steel with a matte white finish. This material provides solidity without making the piece look visually heavy. Matte white, compared to glossy finishes, has the advantage of not accumulating reflections and integrating easily with light-colored walls, wooden furniture, or lacquered surfaces. If the rest of the space includes wooden elements — a parquet floor, a bookshelf, a coffee table — the white of the stem acts as a neutral counterpoint that balances the overall composition.

At 1510 mm in height, this lamp generates light at a level that is comfortable for reading, for illuminating a work area in the living room, or for creating a more intimate atmosphere in the bedroom. It does not project light from above like a ceiling lamp, but from an intermediate point that softens shadows and makes the space more pleasant.

One of the details that sets the VOLTA collection apart is the attention given to the switches. In floor lamps, the switch plays an important role: it is used frequently and should be where it feels natural to look for it. VOLTA addresses this with precision, without the switch interrupting the overall line of the design.

As for the spaces where it can fit, the options are varied. In the living room, a lamp of this type helps to organize lighting by zones: not every part of the room needs to be bathed in the same overhead light. In the bedroom, it can work as an alternative to bedside lamps when a piece with more presence is preferred. In a dining room with sufficient space, this floor lamp can complement the central light and add warmth to the sitting area.

It also works well in transitional spaces. A wide hallway, for example, or a generous entrance where a warmer and more welcoming light than that of a ceiling panel is desired. And in the bathroom, provided the conditions of the space allow it and the lamp is kept away from direct sources of moisture, it can provide a decorative light point.

The 450 x 450 mm base ensures that the lamp remains stable without the need for additional ballast. Its weight of nearly 3 kg gives it presence without making it difficult to move if a change of location is desired. It is a modern lamp in the sense that it responds to real needs of today's home, without sacrificing an aesthetic that does not age.

Questions and answers

Does the VOLTA floor lamp need to be fixed to the floor or wall to remain stable?
