Overview

This FARO A60 bulb is made for fittings where the bulb is on show. The glass has a matt black finish that hides the light source from direct view, so the bulb gives indirect light instead of a bright point in the eye line.

It gives 400 lm of warm white light at 2700K from 4 W, and Faro lists it as dimmable. It suits open pendants and bare lampholders where a standard white bulb would look out of place.

Installation and specifications

The bulb has an E27 Edison screw cap and fits any E27 lampholder on UK mains. Switch the light off and let the old bulb cool before changing it, then screw the new one in by hand until it sits firmly. It is 102 mm tall and 60 mm across, the size of a classic household bulb.

Design and use

Because the light is thrown back towards the fitting and the ceiling, the bulb works best as mood lighting: over a dining table, in a hallway, or in a row of pendants above a counter. For a room that needs strong general light, pair it with other light sources.

Questions and answers

Can I use this bulb with a dimmer?

Yes. Faro lists this bulb as dimmable. Use a dimmer made for LED loads; an older dimmer designed for filament bulbs may cause flicker or a limited dimming range.

Why is the glass black?

The black finish covers the light source so that you do not look straight at it. The light leaves the bulb indirectly, which is more comfortable in an open fitting at eye level.

How long does it last?

Faro rates it at 15,000 hours. At three hours a day that is well over ten years of use.
