Overview

SMILE is a wall light designed by Jordi Busquets for FARO. What makes it different is its adjustable head: depending on how you position it, the lamp serves different functions. In the vertical position it projects light towards the wall or ceiling, creating a warm and diffused atmosphere. In the horizontal position it becomes a precise reading light, directed exactly where you need it.

It is a lamp designed for those who want to handle two situations with a single wall light. There is no need to install several luminaires if one alone can adapt to the moment. That flexibility is the reason it fits well in bedrooms, living rooms, hallways or any corner where the light needs to adjust to the use.

FARO is a Spanish brand with decades of experience in interior and exterior lighting. Its products combine functionality and careful design, and are built to last over time without losing presence in the space.

Installation and specifications

To install this wall light correctly, you need a power outlet in the wall or recessed wiring at the point where it will be fixed. Being a surface-mounted luminaire, it is fixed directly onto the wall using the included anchors. It is recommended that installation be carried out by a qualified electrician, especially if work needs to be done on the internal wiring. Before starting assembly, make sure to cut the power at the electrical panel. The lamp is compatible with voltages between 100V and 240V, so it can be used without an adapter in different countries.

To clean the wall light, use a dry or slightly damp cloth. Avoid abrasive products or solvents that may damage the matte black steel finish. Do not handle the bulb or socket with wet hands. Periodically check that the wall fixing screws are properly tightened. If the wall light has not been used for a long time, check the condition of the wiring before turning it on again.

Design and use

The SMILE wall light is made of steel with a matte black finish. It is a material that holds up well to everyday use, does not deteriorate easily and maintains its appearance with minimal maintenance. The matte black tone gives it a discreet profile, without gloss that draws too much attention, making it easy to fit into different types of interiors without imposing a specific style.

The silhouette of the wall light is compact: 195 mm high, 120 mm long and 132 mm deep. It does not take up much space on the wall and does not protrude excessively, something that is appreciated in rooms where every centimetre counts. Its weight of 0.85 kg makes it easy to handle during installation.

The most notable feature of this wall light is its adjustable design. The head rotates to offer two operating modes. When in the vertical position, the light is directed upwards or to the sides, creating an indirect lighting effect that softens the atmosphere of the room. This mode is especially useful in the living room or dining room, where the aim is to create a calmer atmosphere without harsh overhead lighting. When rotated to the horizontal position, the light focus changes and it becomes a functional reading lamp, useful beside the bed in the bedroom or in a work area.

In the bedroom, this wall light is very practical as a replacement for the bedside lamp. By mounting directly on the wall, it frees up the surface and avoids cables on the bedside table. It can be used in reading mode when concentration is needed and switched to ambient light before sleeping.

In the living room or dining room, two wall lights placed symmetrically generate a balanced lighting that can complement the main lamp or work alone during moments of rest. The matte black finish combines well with dark-toned furniture, natural woods or white lacquered surfaces. It can also work as a decorative element within a Nordic or industrial-style interior scheme, where black metal finishes are common.

In bathrooms or hallways, the compact size of the wall light makes it a convenient option. In the bathroom it can provide complementary light to the mirror or washbasin area. In hallways, installed at the appropriate height, it offers sufficient light without being intrusive.

The lamp uses an E27 LED socket, which is the most common standard. It supports up to 15 W, which with LED technology is more than sufficient for effective illumination. The bulb is not included, so you can choose the one that best suits the warmth of light you are looking for in each space.

Questions and answers

Does the SMILE wall light allow the light to be directed in different directions or does it only have a fixed position?

The wall light has an adjustable design that allows two positions. In vertical it works as indirect or ambient light; in horizontal it acts as a reading light. It is not a continuous adjustment, but two clearly differentiated modes of use depending on how the head is positioned.

Is the E27 LED bulb included in the price or does it need to be purchased separately?

The light source is not included. The wall light comes ready to receive an E27 LED bulb of up to 15 W, but it must be purchased separately. This allows you to choose the colour temperature that best suits the atmosphere you want to create in each room.

Is the body of the wall light made of plastic or a more resistant material?

The body is made of steel with a matte black finish. It is a solid material that does not deform easily and maintains its appearance well over time. The matte finish does not show fingerprints as easily as glossy finishes, which makes maintenance easier.
