Overview

The WINDSOR lamp by FARO is a table lamp designed for spaces where light doesn't need to be intense, but welcoming. Its large linen shade distributes brightness softly and evenly, without harsh spots or abrupt contrasts. It is a natural choice for the living room, dining room, or any corner where a calm atmosphere is sought at the end of the day.

The steel base with a matte white finish provides stability and a clean appearance. The off-white linen shade complements that restraint without feeling cold. Together, these materials create a discreet presence that doesn't compete with the rest of the space. It is a lamp that simply exists, and does its job well.

FARO is a Spanish brand with decades of experience in lighting. Their products are designed for real domestic use, with durable materials and carefully considered proportions.

Installation and specifications

To use this lamp you only need a stable surface to place it on — a side table, a desk, or any piece of furniture that can hold the weight without issue. Plug the cable into a standard outlet. Before doing so, make sure the outlet is in good condition and that the voltage of your installation is compatible with the indicated range. No tools or specialized electrical installation are required.

The linen shade can be cleaned with a dry or slightly damp cloth, without harsh products. Avoid wetting the fabric directly. The steel body accepts a soft cloth with minimal moisture to remove dust. Do not use aerosols or abrasive cleaners on any of the surfaces. Keep the lamp switched off and cool before cleaning it.

Design and use

The WINDSOR lamp has a proportion that is rarely seen in a conventional table lamp. The linen shade is generous, wider than usual, which allows light to be distributed over a large surface without creating hot spots. This makes it especially useful in spaces where ambient lighting is sought rather than direct focus.

Linen as a material has something that other fabrics cannot achieve in the same way: it lets light through with a particular warmth. The off-white tone of the shade contributes to that effect. It is not a pure white light, but something softer, more similar to natural light at sunset. That changes how the space is perceived at night.

The matte white steel base is compact but firm. At nearly 1.7 kg, the lamp has enough weight to remain stable on a side table without additional anchoring. The matte finish avoids reflections and maintains a uniform appearance from any angle.

In the living room, this lamp works well on a side console or next to a sofa. It provides just the right light for reading or conversation without needing to turn on all the ceiling lighting. In the dining room, placed on a credenza or sideboard, it adds a layer of light that complements the main lighting and softens the atmosphere during dinner.

On a bedside table, it does exactly what is expected of a lamp in that location: to illuminate without disturbing, without being too powerful or too dim. The scale of the shade is sufficient to light the area without taking up too much surface space. For those who work from home, it is also suitable on a desk where overhead light is insufficient or too direct.

In terms of style, the combination of white steel and linen fits with interiors that seek coherence without effort. It works well with neutral tones, light wood, wicker or rattan, and also with more modern finishes such as concrete or white marble. It is not a lamp that imposes a specific style, but rather adapts to what is already in the space.

Compatibility with standard E27 LED bulbs makes it easy to find the type of light that works best in each case. The maximum power of 15 W is suitable for this type of ambient use. The lamp does not include a bulb, which allows you to choose from the outset the preferred color temperature — warmer for the evening, more neutral for the desk or dining room.

Questions and answers

Does the linen shade of the WINDSOR lamp affect the perceived color temperature?

Yes. The linen fabric in an off-white tone filters the light and gives it a warmer tint than the bulb emits on its own. To maintain that soft ambient light effect, it is recommended to use an LED bulb with a color temperature between 2700 K and 3000 K.

Is the base stable on smooth surfaces such as glass or ceramic?

With a net weight of 1.67 kg, the lamp has good stability on flat surfaces. On ceramic or glass it may slide slightly if bumped. In that case, a small non-slip pad under the base is enough to secure it without altering the appearance.

What is the appropriate size of the table or surface for placing this lamp?

The exact dimensions of the base are not specified, but as it is a table lamp with a large shade, it is advisable to place it on a side table or piece of furniture at least 30–40 cm deep so that it is well proportioned and does not overhang the edge.
