Overview

This square recessed luminaire from FARO is an option designed for those looking for a lamp that doesn't draw too much attention but performs its function well. It integrates into the ceiling cleanly, with no visible frames and a matte white finish that blends with the surface. Being adjustable, it allows the light beam to be directed wherever needed, which is useful in the dining room, bedroom, or any space where the direction of lighting matters.

The lamp works with a GU10 LED bulb, which is not included, and accepts voltages between 100 V and 240 V, making it compatible with standard electrical installations. Its body is made of steel, giving it solidity despite its low weight.

FARO is a Spanish brand with decades of experience in lighting for home and interior spaces. Their products combine functionality and understated design, and are present in renovation and decoration projects for both residential and small commercial use.

Installation and specifications

To install this lamp in the ceiling, it is necessary to prepare a square opening in the false ceiling or plaster panel with the appropriate dimensions to house the casing. Being a recessed fixture, it requires sufficient space in the plenum to insert the luminaire body and connect the wiring. Installation must be carried out by a qualified electrician. With an IP20 rating, this lamp has no protection against moisture or dust and must be installed in dry interior spaces, away from water sources.

For cleaning, simply wipe the outer surface with a dry or slightly damp cloth. Abrasive products or solvents that could damage the matte white finish should not be used. Before any maintenance operation, make sure the lamp is switched off and disconnected from the power supply.

Design and use

This square recessed luminaire from FARO is designed to integrate into the ceiling without adding volume or visual prominence. It is the type of lamp that disappears from the field of vision once installed, and that is precisely what many people look for when renovating the lighting in their home. The matte white finish and the absence of a frame mean it fits with almost any type of smooth ceiling or one painted in light tones.

The steel body gives it a rigidity not always found in luminaires in this range. Although it weighs very little — barely 150 grams — the structure is compact and well resolved. The dimensions of 82 x 82 mm with a height of 55 mm allow it to be housed in ceilings with a reduced plenum, without the need for complex works.

One of the most practical features of this lamp is that it is adjustable. This means that, once installed, the spotlight can be tilted towards a specific area: a painting, a kitchen countertop, a corner of the dining room, or the bedroom nightstand. It is not a fixed light that always illuminates in the same direction, but rather adapts to the layout of the space. This makes it a more versatile solution than many conventional modern recessed lights.

In the kitchen it can be used over the work area or passageway. In the dining room, combined with other modern recessed lights, it can configure a directed lighting scheme. In bedrooms, a few well-placed units comfortably replace a central pendant lamp. The effect is neat and clean: the ceiling is free of hanging elements or accessories that might visually clutter the space.

The style of this luminaire is neutral and deliberately understated. There are no references to designs that seek to stand out on their own. Modern design here does not mean eye-catching, but integrated. It is compatible with minimalist, Nordic, contemporary, or simply renovated interiors without a defined aesthetic line. It does not need the rest of the space to follow a specific style to look good.

With a maximum power of 8 W in GU10 LED format, consumption is low and the color temperature will depend on the bulb chosen. This gives the freedom to adapt the light to the atmosphere desired in each room. A warm bulb in the bedroom, a more neutral one in the home office or kitchen. The lamp accepts any GU10 LED on the market within that power range.

It is an interior luminaire, with IP20, with no moisture resistance. It is not intended for bathrooms or outdoor installations. For those cases, products with a higher protection rating would need to be sought. In dry, enclosed spaces such as the living room, hallway, kitchen, or bedrooms, it works without limitations.

Simple-design downlights like this one have the advantage of being combinable with each other without the result looking cluttered. Several downlights aligned on a track or distributed in a grid across the ceiling give a neat and contemporary look, characteristic of current renovations.

Questions and answers

Does the luminaire include the GU10 LED bulb or does it need to be purchased separately?

The bulb is not included. A GU10 LED must be purchased separately, with a maximum power of 8 W. The accepted voltage ranges from 100 V to 240 V, making it compatible with the standard electrical installation in Spain.

How much space is needed in the ceiling to install this recessed luminaire?

The body measures 82 x 82 mm with a height of 55 mm. That space must be available in the false ceiling plenum to correctly house the casing and wiring. It is recommended that installation be carried out by a professional.

Can this lamp be used in the bathroom or in spaces with humidity?

No. This luminaire has an IP20 rating, which means it has no protection against moisture. It is designed exclusively for dry interiors. For bathrooms or other spaces with the presence of steam or water, a luminaire with a higher protection rating must be chosen.
