Overview

FLAC is a recessed ceiling lamp from FARO, designed for spaces where size matters as much as the result. Its compact 55 mm diameter body allows it to be installed in places where a conventional lamp simply does not fit. The white aluminum finish blends in without drawing attention, letting the light do its job.

Thanks to its IP44 certification, this lamp withstands ambient humidity and splashes, making it a valid option for the bathroom or hallway. In addition, the head is adjustable, allowing the beam to be directed exactly where needed: over an object, a specific area of the floor, or a corner that would otherwise remain in shadow.

FARO is a Spanish brand with decades of experience in home lighting for indoor and outdoor use. Their products are designed for real installations, not just catalog photographs.

Installation and specifications

To install this lamp in the ceiling, it is necessary to prepare a recessed cutout according to the indicated diameter. The connection must be made by a qualified electrician. Before any intervention, cut the power supply at the main panel. Check that the ceiling is thick enough to house the body of the luminaire. The GU10 LED light source is not included and must be purchased separately.

To clean the aluminum body, use a soft, slightly damp cloth. Avoid abrasive products or solvents that may damage the white finish. The transparent glass diffuser can be cleaned with a dry cloth. Do not handle the lamp while the installation is live.

Design and use

The modern design of this lamp is based on discretion. There are no decorative elements to distract: just a clean white cylinder that sits flush with the ceiling and disappears visually when not switched on. This makes it compatible with almost any interior style, from the most minimalist to the most updated classic.

The body is made of aluminum, a material that manages the heat generated by the light source well and is durable under normal usage conditions. The transparent glass diffuser does not filter or alter the color of the light: what the GU10 LED bulb emits is exactly what reaches the illuminated space. This is especially important in places where color accuracy is valued, such as a bathroom where makeup is applied or clothing tones are checked.

The adjustability of the head is one of the most practically useful features. Unlike fixed downlights, this lamp allows the direction of the beam to be adjusted after installation. If you move a piece of furniture or decide to illuminate another area, simply reorient the head without touching the wiring or the mounting. That flexibility turns a simple installation into something that can adapt over time.

The IP44 rating is not a minor detail. It means the lamp is protected against solid objects larger than 1 mm and against water splashes from any direction. This makes it suitable for the bathroom, but also for kitchens, laundry areas, or entrance hallways where humidity can fluctuate. In spaces where conventional lights would not be appropriate, this option works without issue.

In a well-laid-out kitchen, a couple of these lamps above the worktop or kitchen bar provides directed lighting that complements the general ceiling light. It does not replace a room ceiling light, but adds precision where it is needed. In the dining room, installed above the table, it can work as a soft spotlight that defines the space without creating harsh shadows.

In bedrooms or double rooms, these lamps work well in the wardrobe area or at the entrance to an en-suite bathroom. They are also useful in long hallways where several units are installed in a row to distribute the lighting evenly. The compact size means that several downlights together do not visually overwhelm the ceiling.

The white finish blends effortlessly with white or light-toned ceilings, which are the most common in apartments and recently built homes. If the ceiling is a different color, the white of the lamp can be used as a controlled contrast, although in most cases it goes unnoticed.

Compatibility with voltages between 100V and 277V allows it to be used in different contexts without the need for adapters. The weight of 80 grams makes installation straightforward even in plasterboard ceilings, as long as the manufacturer's instructions are followed and the appropriate bracket is used.

For those looking for modern, discreet lights with their own style, the FLAC model from FARO is an option that performs well day to day, without the need for frequent adjustments or maintenance. Lights of this type work in the background, without taking center stage, and that is exactly what is expected of a good recessed luminaire.

Questions and answers

Can the head of the FLAC lamp be rotated after installation, or does it remain fixed once mounted?

The head is adjustable and can be repositioned after installation. There is no need to intervene in the wiring or disassemble the lamp to change the direction of the light beam.

Can this recessed lamp be installed in a bathroom ceiling without additional protection?

Yes. The IP44 protection rating allows it to be installed in bathrooms and areas with humidity or splashes, without the need to add any extra protection.

Is the GU10 LED light source included in the box or does it need to be purchased separately?

It is not included. The lamp is delivered without a bulb, so it is necessary to purchase a GU10 LED light source separately before putting the installation into operation.
