Overview

The Windsor lamp by Faro Barcelona is a suspension luminaire designed for spaces where ambient lighting makes all the difference. Its large shade, made from papyrus with a natural finish, produces a diffuse and enveloping light that completely transforms the perception of a room. It is a suitable option for the dining room, living room, bedroom or any living area where warmth is desired without resorting to generic solutions.

The steel body with a black finish and the jute structure give it a visually clean profile that fits well in both Nordic-style interiors and environments closer to organic or rustic design. The oval shape of the shade, with a diameter of 640 mm, allows light to be distributed broadly without concentrating on a single point.

Faro Barcelona is a Spanish brand with decades of experience in interior lighting. Its collections combine natural materials with metal structures, which is clearly reflected in Windsor.

Installation and specifications

For installation, a ceiling light point with a standard junction box is required. Before starting assembly, it is essential to cut the power at the electrical panel. The lamp is fixed directly to the ceiling using the included bracket. If the cable requires length adjustment, it is advisable to do so before hanging the luminaire. For the electrical connection, it is recommended to hire an electrician if you do not have prior experience. The E27 LED light source is not included and must be purchased separately, respecting the indicated maximum wattage of 45 W.

The papyrus diffuser and jute structure should not be cleaned with wet or abrasive products. For routine maintenance, a dry cloth or a soft brush to remove accumulated dust is sufficient. Avoid prolonged exposure to direct humidity — this lamp is not suitable for bathrooms or kitchens with intense steam. The black metal body can be cleaned with a slightly damp cloth and without harsh detergents.

Design and use

The Windsor collection starts from a simple idea: a large-format oval shade suspended from the ceiling, capable of becoming the central element of a room. In this version, the shade is made from papyrus with a natural finish, a material that filters light softly and projects warm tones onto the walls and floor. The result is ambient lighting that does not dazzle and invites you to linger in the space.

The structure holding the shade combines jute and black lacquered steel. The jute adds texture and an organic note that balances the coldness of the metal. This combination of materials makes the lamp work well in interiors that blend the natural with the more contemporary — from a living room with light wood furniture to a dining room with more industrial finishes.

The oval shape of the shade, with a total diameter of 640 mm, is one of the most defining features of this luminaire. It is neither a sphere nor a flat shade: the oval silhouette gives it presence without appearing visually heavy. Hanging above a dining table or in the centre of a large bedroom, it acts as a visual reference point for the room.

The lamp works with an E27 LED bulb of up to 45 W, allowing you to choose the colour temperature according to the atmosphere you want to create — warmer light for rest areas, something more neutral for work or reading zones. Being compatible with the voltage range 100 V – 240 V, there are no restrictions on use in different countries or installations.

The net weight of 1.67 kg makes it manageable during installation. It is fixed to the ceiling with the standard suspension system, without the need for special anchors. Once installed, the total height of 375 mm ensures that the shade sits at a functional distance from the ceiling without encroaching on the room's space.

In terms of compatibility with different styles, Windsor adapts well to Nordic interiors, to proposals closer to the vintage style, or to environments that mix natural materials with metal structures. It is not a lamp that demands a specific style — it fits into different contexts without clashing. In a wide hallway it can also work as a decorative light point, provided the ceiling height allows it.

Lights of this type, with shades made from natural materials, create a different atmosphere from glass diffusers. The texture of the papyrus and jute absorbs part of the light and transforms it into a uniform glow that spreads sideways. This is especially useful in the bedroom or living room, where direct and intense light can be uncomfortable.

Questions and answers

Does the papyrus diffuser significantly alter the colour of the light emitted by the bulb?

The papyrus with a natural finish filters the light and adds a slightly warm tone. Depending on the colour temperature of the E27 LED bulb used, the result can range from a very warm and cosy light to a neutral light with a soft hue. It does not block light significantly, but it does soften it noticeably.

Does the 640 mm oval shade fit in standard low-height ceilings?

The total height of the luminaire is 375 mm, which makes it viable for standard-height ceilings. The oval shade takes up space horizontally, not vertically, so it does not usually cause issues in spaces with ceilings between 2.5 and 3 metres.

Does the suspension cable allow the hanging height of the lamp to be adjusted?

The cable can be adjusted before installation to adapt the height of the lamp to the space. It is recommended to define the desired height before fixing the luminaire to the ceiling, as modifying it afterwards requires dismantling the fixing.
