Overview

The Windsor lamp by Faro Barcelona is a pendant luminaire designed for spaces where ambient lighting makes a difference. Its large papyrus shade, in a natural finish, distributes light softly and evenly, without intense spots that strain the eyes. The black steel body contrasts with the warm tone of the diffuser, making it a piece that works well in both contemporary interiors and spaces with a more classic touch.

It is fixed to the ceiling and hangs at a height that can be adjusted depending on the room. In a dining room, for example, it provides that calm atmosphere sought during meal times. In a large living room or in a kitchen with an island, it acts as a central visual element without feeling overly decorative.

Faro Barcelona has been designing luminaires for domestic and interior design use for decades. Their Windsor collection is an example of that approach: pieces that combine characterful materials with careful craftsmanship.

Installation and specifications

To install this pendant lamp, a previously prepared ceiling light point is required. It is fixed directly to the ceiling using the included bracket. It is recommended that installation be carried out by a qualified electrician, particularly to verify that the wiring can handle the load and that the anchor is secure. The working voltage is 100 V to 240 V, making it compatible with the standard electrical grid in Spain and most countries. The E27 LED bulb is not included and must be purchased separately.

The papyrus diffuser should not be cleaned with wet products or damp cloths. For dust, a dry cloth or soft brush is sufficient. The black steel body can be cleaned with a slightly damp cloth, without solvents. Before any cleaning or maintenance task, disconnect the lamp from the power supply.

Design and use

The Windsor is a suspension lamp with a clear visual presence. The 640 mm diameter makes this piece a central element in any room, without the need to add other decorative light points around it. The oval papyrus shade, in a natural tone, is reminiscent of the organic materials used in Nordic or artisanal-style luminaires, although the Windsor does not seek to fit into a single aesthetic register. Its combination of black steel and natural papyrus gives it a character of its own that adapts to diverse environments.

The large-format oval shade is not only aesthetically valuable, but also functional: it filters light and diffuses it evenly throughout the room. This is especially useful in spaces where enveloping lighting is desired, without harsh shadows or abrupt contrasts. The E27 LED light source allows the use of low-consumption bulbs that extend the overall lifespan.

In the dining room, this pendant lamp works very well suspended above the table. The height of 375 mm and the diameter of the oval shade cover the dining area well without blocking the line of sight between those seated on either side. In a kitchen with a bar or island, it provides sufficient ambient light and acts as a visual focal point that organizes the space.

For a medium or large living room, the Windsor can be installed individually or combined with other lamps from the same collection. As it is a ceiling luminaire with a strong character, it is best not to mix it with pieces of a very different style. It works well alongside furniture in natural tones, dark wood, or cream white surfaces, which is precisely the main color of the piece.

In a bedroom, the lamp provides ambient light that is less direct than a spotlight or a conventional ceiling light. The papyrus softens the beam, creating a more relaxed atmosphere suited to rest. If the bedroom has a high ceiling, the cable drop can be adjusted so that it hangs at a comfortable and visually balanced height.

Although it is not an outdoor or bathroom luminaire, in a large, well-ventilated bathroom it could be considered, though it is advisable to first consult a technician to confirm whether the conditions of the space allow it. For more standard uses, the dining room, kitchen, living room, and bedroom are its natural environments.

The weight of 1.67 kg makes it manageable during installation. It does not require a special ceiling structure, although it is always recommended to anchor into a joist or use a suitable expansion plug for concrete or drywall surfaces.

Questions and answers

Is the oval shade of this lamp made from authentic papyrus or is it a synthetic material?

The diffuser is made of natural papyrus with a natural finish. It is not a synthetic material, which is why it requires specific care: avoid moisture and clean only with a dry cloth or soft brush.

Can the black steel body rust over time in normal indoor conditions?

Under standard indoor conditions, black steel with a treated finish does not present oxidation issues. Simply clean it occasionally with a slightly damp cloth and avoid contact with abrasive products or solvents.

Does this pendant lamp accept any E27 bulb or only LED type bulbs?

It accepts any bulb with an E27 base, but the maximum power is 135 W. It is recommended to use E27 LED bulbs, which consume much less energy and generate less heat on the papyrus diffuser.
