Overview

The FARO TIERRA 520 lamp is a ceiling pendant luminaire designed for those looking for more than just a light source. It is a piece that has its own presence in the space: during the day it reads as a sculptural object, and when switched on, the translucent shade transforms the light into something warm and enveloping. Its oval shape evokes the organic patterns of nature without feeling overloaded — there is a balance between the artisanal and the contemporary.

This pendant lamp works well in living rooms, dining rooms or bedrooms where a characterful light point is desired. It does not dominate visually, but it does not go unnoticed either. It can be placed alone above a table or in composition with other models from the same collection, depending on the dimensions of the space and the effect you want to achieve.

FARO is a Spanish brand with decades of experience in interior and exterior lighting. It works with recognised designers and is committed to materials with a story behind them. The TIERRA collection is a good example of this: it arises from a collaboration with designer Héctor Serrano and combines digital manufacturing with materials of plant origin.

Installation and specifications

To install this pendant lamp, a ceiling light point with wiring in good condition is required. The fitting is directly to the ceiling via the included rose. It is recommended that installation be carried out by a qualified electrician, especially if the cable height needs to be adjusted or new connections need to be made. Before starting, make sure to cut the power at the electrical panel. The luminaire voltage is compatible with the standard European and international network (100V–240V), so no additional adapters are required in most countries.

The shade of this lamp is made from PLA mixed with recycled cellulose, which gives it an irregular and natural texture. To clean it, a dry or slightly damp cloth is sufficient. Abrasive products or solvents should not be used, as they could damage the surface. The steel structure in black finish is cleaned in the same way: a soft cloth, without aggressive products. Do not install the lamp in areas with direct humidity, such as a bathroom with constant steam or a kitchen without adequate ventilation.

Design and use

The shade of the TIERRA 520 lamp has an oval shape that references honeycomb patterns, albeit in a very restrained way. There is no explicit ornamentation or forced decorative references — the geometry speaks for itself. That oval silhouette is achieved through 3D printing, which allows each piece to have small texture variations. The material used is PLA, a bioplastic of plant origin, mixed with recycled pine cellulose. The result is a surface that is not entirely uniform: it has subtle irregularities that give it an appearance close to something handmade.

When the lamp is off, the shade has a neutral tone and a quiet presence. When switched on, the translucency of the material causes the light to filter in a diffuse way, creating a warm atmosphere without areas of strong contrast. There is no direct glare. The light is distributed downwards and sideways through the oval surface, making it suitable for spaces where visual comfort is sought rather than high-intensity functional lighting.

The structure is made of steel with a black finish, which gives it solidity without adding visual weight. The contrast between the black body and the warmth of the illuminated shade works well in interiors with light tones, but also in darker spaces where the lights become the main element. In a living room with light wood furniture, the lamp provides that counterpoint that balances the whole. In a darker dining room, with a dark wood table or black finishes, it integrates coherently.

For the bedroom, a single unit above the bedside table or centred on the ceiling creates a relaxed atmosphere. In a medium-sized dining room, it can work alone or combined with other lamps from the TIERRA collection at different heights. In the kitchen, if there is an island or a work area with sufficient height, it also fits without creating a sense of clutter. The bathroom, if it has good ventilation and the light point is away from the shower, can be another space for this piece.

Compatibility with an E27 LED bulb allows the colour temperature to be chosen according to the atmosphere you want to create: warmer for rest areas, more neutral for workspaces or the kitchen. The E27 cap is the most common on the market, so there is no difficulty finding the right bulb.

This pendant lamp can be combined with other pieces from the collection to create compositions that cover larger spaces. Grouping several lights at different heights is a common way to give presence to high ceilings without resorting to a single large luminaire. In a room with a four-metre ceiling, for example, a composition of three TIERRA lamps at staggered heights is visually more interesting than a single centred piece.

Questions and answers

Is the oval shade identical in all units or can it vary from one to another?

The shade is manufactured using 3D printing with PLA mixed with recycled pine cellulose. This process generates random texture variations in each piece, so no two shades are exactly alike. This irregularity is part of the character of the product and is not considered a defect.

Does the luminaire include the E27 LED bulb or does it need to be purchased separately?

The light source is not included. The lamp accepts an E27 cap bulb with a maximum power of 20W. It is recommended to use an LED bulb to make better use of energy efficiency and to avoid exceeding the power indicated by the manufacturer.

Is it possible to combine this pendant lamp with other models from the TIERRA collection on the same ceiling?

Yes. The TIERRA collection is designed to be used both individually and in compositions with several units. Different models from the same collection can be combined to create groupings that cover larger spaces or generate visual effects at different heights.
