Overview

THON is a wall light designed for outdoor use. It is mounted directly on the facade or any exterior wall and provides warm, stable light with no flickering or dark spots. It is a suitable option for house entrances, porches, covered terraces, or side access points where continuous, long-lasting illumination is needed.

The body is made of die-cast aluminium, giving it solidity without adding unnecessary weight. The opal glass diffuser spreads light evenly outward. Its IP55 protection rating ensures that rain and solid particles do not affect the lamp's performance, even in exposed areas.

FARO is a Spanish brand with extensive experience in luminaires for indoor and outdoor spaces. Their products combine technical criteria with a careful finish, designed for residential environments where detail also matters.

Installation and specifications

Before installing the wall light, check that the exterior wall where you are going to fix it is clean, dry, and free of surface moisture. Make sure the wiring is de-energised before starting any connection. This wall light requires a recessed junction box or flat surface that allows the fixing points to be properly anchored. If you have any doubts about the electrical installation process, it is advisable to hire a certified electrician.

For maintenance of the wall light, clean the aluminium body with a soft, slightly damp cloth. Avoid abrasive products or solvents that could damage the dark grey finish. The glass diffuser can be cleaned with a dry or minimally damp cloth. Do not submerge the luminaire or expose it to direct pressurised water jets, although its IP55 protection covers rain and normal splash exposure.

Design and use

The THON wall light by FARO has a contemporary design that fits well with facades of clean lines, both in new-build homes and renovation projects. Its dark grey finish makes it understated without disappearing: it integrates with concrete, stone, or modern render walls without creating a striking contrast.

The die-cast aluminium body is not just an aesthetic choice. Aluminium withstands temperature changes, ambient humidity, and prolonged exposure to outdoor conditions well. It is a material that does not rust easily and maintains its shape under climatic variations. This is especially relevant in areas with cold winters or very dry summers, where other materials may deteriorate over time.

The opal glass diffuser serves a specific purpose: distributing light without creating points of direct glare. When you switch on the lamp, the illumination spreads softly across the area surrounding the wall light, without dazzling. This is comfortable for passageways such as entrances or garden access points, where light needs to guide without causing discomfort.

The included COB LED light source operates at 3000 K, a warm colour temperature that is close to the light of a traditional bulb. This type of light is pleasant in residential outdoor settings because it does not give the cold feeling associated with whiter tones. A terrace or porch lit at 3000 K feels welcoming even at night, without sacrificing visibility.

With 15 W of power, the LED source in this lamp consumes little and performs efficiently. An external motion sensor is not needed to justify its continuous use during night-time hours, although if you ever wish to add a motion detector to the circuit, the lamp can be integrated into that type of installation without any issue.

The IP55 protection rating is a relevant detail for any wall light intended for outdoor use. The first digit, 5, indicates protection against dust and solid particles. The second digit, also 5, indicates protection against water jets from any direction. In practical terms, this means that direct rain, wind-driven rain, or lateral rain do not compromise the luminaire's performance. It is suitable for uncovered areas, although not for submersion or exposure to pressurised water.

The dimensions of the wall light — 185 mm in height, 140 mm in length, and 175 mm in depth — allow it to be installed in spaces where there is little room between other architectural elements. It does not protrude too far from the wall, making it practical for entrances with narrow passageways or walls close to doors.

As for its placement, it works well as a wall light in the garden, next to the main entrance, on the sides of a garage, or on an uncovered terrace. It is also suitable for illuminating sections of exterior staircases or access paths when several wall lights are installed in series along the wall or facade.

Questions and answers

Does the THON wall light include the light source or does it need to be purchased separately?

The lamp includes the 15 W COB LED light source. It is not necessary to purchase it separately or make any changes before the first installation.

Does the IP55 rating allow this wall light to be installed in areas exposed to rain without additional protection?

Yes. The IP55 rating guarantees protection against water jets from any direction, making it suitable for uncovered outdoor areas. It is not recommended to expose it to pressurised water or direct submersion.

Is the motion sensor integrated into this lamp or does it need to be added externally?

The THON wall light does not incorporate a motion sensor as standard. If you wish to activate the light via motion detection, an external detector must be installed in the corresponding electrical circuit.
